On Rance games, they justify his level going back to 1 at the start of every game because he becomes lazy and complacent between them, effectively returning to 1.
In his universe, Rance is canonically a god-like existance that has no level cap. If he applied himself, he could just improve endlessly to the point of achieving godhood. But his personality prevents him.

allow me to educate you:
the image in question contains a leaked discussion from 4chan's janitor board (/j/). the discussion pertains to a notorious poster known as "barneyfag", who used to spam replies to post featuring content from "my little pony", a kid's multimedia franchise. this adverse reaction to mlp content comes from barneyfag's childhood trauma from growing up as a special needs kids and being forced to watch kid's shows as a highschool teenager.
eventually posters began to copy barneyfag's posting habits because they found them amusing. the actual barneyfag stopped posting years ago and now it seems like his imposters all stopped posting as well.

IDs reached a point where they caused more problems than they prevented. If you try to engage in a discussion and you hadn't already made a post in the thread you were typically accused of being a phoneposting samefag which meant you had to comment on some other shit you don't care about like you're farming karma to be able to make a new thread on reddit. This happened because phoneposting makes it easy as fuck to change your ID which defeats their purpose.

the more I think about it the more this seems like one of the most genuinely unfun mechanics you could put in a game.
on top of the timer element (which most gamers don't like) it runs contrary to the intuition that players should get stronger as the game progresses. now I want to see a game with it just to see the reactions people have to it
