Depends on how you define smart. It's a solved game, meaning that what you do, is not learning strategies and tactics, but memorizing the best positions.

Magnus even said this on JRE, and people still deny it. You can have the worlds best consistent player say it's solved and you're memorizing responses, and they'll still say it's not true. It's not an easy thing to do, certainly, but I've no interest in it.
