Outside of the Sonic movies, people didn't even start to like Sonic before they were 12 and autistic.
I speak from experience. I thought Sonic looked the lamest but once I hit the age when I started to feel different from other people, Sonic started to appeal to me.

As someone who was a kid around the time she started getting put into games, no I did not care for her in the slightest. She was just Tails (female) to me.
Now that I'm older I still don't care about her, but at least she doesn't annoy me whenever she shows up unlike Silver or Charmy.

She's a non-character. Really she exists to be another playable style in the games she's in or to complete Team Rose. Adults care about her because she's basically the number one ship for Tails due to being somewhat close in age and adaptable to Tails, plus she isn't as boring as Cosmo.
