Mecha Games
Are there any good mecha games in 2025?

I'm ideally looking for a PvP mecha game that isn't dead or dying and I can really sink my teeth into.

If there aren't any good PvP mecha games, what are some good single player ones? I have a PS2 with a hard drive, a PlayStation Classic, and a computer.

Ty in advance.

Play every single armored core game.
I made a Pepe emblem and the pic was shared around for quite a while.

All the good mecha games are from the PS2 era. I honestly never even tried PvP games.

Like said above, every Armored Core.
Gundam One Year War (PS2) - jap only
VOTOMS (PS2) - jap only
Assault Suit Leynos remake (PC)
Daemon x Machina (PC)
Metal Wolf Chaos XD (PC)

I DON'T RECOMMEND:
- Strike Suit (both), because of the targetting system against battleships. It may seem like I'm being a belladonna here, but just that completely ruins the game.
- Lost Planet series: do not play this as a mecha game. This is Monster Hunter with mechs. If you understand that, you may play it and it's very good. But the mechs are more like vehicles to get from A to B, they're not the main focus.

Mecha Break for currently alive PvP, it's a hero shooter with Armored Core-like gameplay. You can make a jiggly pilot to ogle while you die or explore the lobby.
Armored Core 6 is excellent but sadly the PvP scene is very small. However there is a co-op mod that adds soulslike invasions, it's extremely fun.

>>718314813
I like the few I've played. Slower and stompier though.
>5: Mercenaries is fun as a merc company simulator, mods reccomended, but eventually falls into a samey loop
>Online can be fun but you have to find the machine that works for your playstyle. Barely gets updates and when it does, it's garbage (pride flags and maps that you can get stuck on). Missile boat/LRM spam was annoying

The Vs/Maxiboost series for PvP but I haven't kept up with it recently. It's a 2v2 arena fighter, very popular in Japanese arcades and then gets secondary releases usually on console. There might be some PC community out there emulating one of them.

Breaker 4 is recent, it plays more like a bit of dynasty warriors with how you sweep through weaker enemies, and allows you to customize your dream mobile suit with parts you collect. No PvP as far as I'm aware.

Gundam Evolution was a hero shooter. I liked it but the monetization was ass, it locked suits behind paywalls or grinds. Felt like it didn't get much love from Bandai and the devs had some passion but were trying to chase multiple audiences (esports/eceleb fans, casuals, Gundam fans) at the same time and not doing enough for any of them. It was officially shut down but I hear there's a private server that's doing well, and I imagine they'd have to remove the monetization.

Mecha games are so weird to me. So many of them have all these cool features but I've never once seen something that felt definitive, even Fires of Rubicon felt underwhelming to me despite everything that's great about it. I want some sort of dogfight-y zero-g type thing where getting hit just once means you're winged and getting outmaneuvered means you get insta'd, kind of like quake where you don't really get ganged up on or third partied doesn't really happen the same way because you just move so fast and kill so fast and die so fast. That's kind of like Gundam once beam weaponry became mainstream for mobile suit production. Basically any hit became lethal since basically nothing could block beams, so mobile suit production start getting more compact and focusing on mobility.

A mech doesn't keel over and die because you cut off its arm, what makes a mech cool is that it can just keep fighting anyway because a decrease in combat effectiveness isn't an immobilisation like it would be for a person.

Exactly. In Fires of Rubicon, the gameplay looks fast and exciting at first, but then the movement turns out to just be a kind of mellow bullet hell and dark souls-like attrition with dumb AI, and frankly the appeal ends up being in the variety rather than the base gameplay for me

NTA
I get that, I just don't want to see healthbars and numbers when I'm using a fucking turbo particle railgun cannon the size of a bus. Part of the fundamental appeal of mecha for me is the idea that this 'vehicle' has made any other form of combat rare because of its sheer adaptability and power. It's an apex predator that can only be feasibly challenged by another of its kind. In Gundam, when mobile suits first appear, a small force of mobile suits just straight up massacre an entire space fleet with impunity and nothing can be done about it because the enemy didn't have their own version. In terms of attrition, I'd be into stuff like ammo, rocket pods, shit you use to take potshots and control the enemy's movement, maybe discarding equipment for a mobility boost, maybe a booster like in Gundam Thunderbolt that turns you into a rocket but makes you sluggish, shit like that. But for me all the excitement and sense of hectic combat just disappears once you have these unexplicably durable vehicles that don't even have animations for when they take damage. I want to realise a second before I get hit that I'm dead and then see the cockpit go white as it turns to slag. One round I should have dodged. That's it mane

NTA but he's right. Whatever that aesthetic is called it needs to be taken out back and shot before it infects some actually great games in the future. Concept artists who do this shit are everywhere and it always always always looks cheap and lame and just serves as an excuse to not have any detail and leave the animations looking like world of warcraft

The pserver is working on a custom suit (F91) and just released a map.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leihG70fmBQ
The caveat is that matchmaking is still a WIP so you have to join their discord server to find matches. I don't know how active it is since I'm waiting for matchmaking to be finished.
Anonymous No.718331912
I liked Gundam Evolution. It deserved better.
The private server existing is nice but waiting for 12 players to manually join a lobby isn't the same
Anonymous No.718332248
>>718321193
Private server has no monetization, all the characters and cosmetics from the original game are unlocked. There are a handful of custom cosmetics now too; the devs figured out how to make the game's gacha system work and give players a free pull for those each day
>>718331007
Just to warn the custom map is pretty jank. The map not being built for GunEvo's gameplay aside the capture point, spawn area etc. don't fully match the visuals of where they're placed. The devs are aware of this and the map will only be openly playable for a month before it's made limited (unavailable to be manually selected, but you can ask the devs to set your lobby to the map. There's an unfinished, unreleased test map in the game which is the same way)
