Splinter Cell remake
It was announced in early 2021, it's being almost 5 years, yet nothing was talked about beside the confirmation that it's still in development this year.
What's taking them so long? It's splinter cell it's not really complicated
There's even a Splinter Cell show releasing soon yet they are not banking on it to release the remake at the same time.
Are they waiting to reveal it very close to it's release date or what?

Exactly, and that's likely the problem. Instead of just remastering the OG gameplay with modern visuals-which people would eat up-they're probably gutting it and slapping in every “modern design” trope they can think of. It’s not about stealth anymore, it’s about “player empowerment” and “cinematic experience.” Sam’s gonna be quipping like Nathan Drake and parkouring like Ezio soon enough.

>Ubisoft Toronto will be leading development on a Splinter Cell remake, rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine. Splinter Cell remains a ground-breaking series. Its gameplay, technology innovations and storytelling has left an immense legacy. Our team is carefully combing through the original to capture what made it so special 20 years ago, but finding new moments to surprise players with today’s technologies.

>What's taking them so long?
Feature Creep.

Any somewhat competent AAA team can crank out a linear stealth/action game like Splinter Cell in 2, max 3 years. Especially since they already have the blueprint in front of them and only have to produce the assets, cobble the game together and QA the implementation. But that is not what they are trying to do. Ubisoft is reinventing the wheel with all kinds of features, trends and experimenting with the size and scope of the game. And that is what, in all development projects, eats up the lionsshare of the dev cycle. Usually 3, 4, 5 years of them just tinkering and toying all kinds of shit, scrapping what doesn't work until they know what the game is actually supposed to be.

They revealed Blacklist with a gameplay footage that tried to show every gameplay style in 5 minutes, which quickly lead to cawadooty combat with unironic predator strike.

Also it released like 2 month before PS4 and Xbone and they didn't make 8th gen version. They could at least wait out for PS4 launch.

Also lack of Michael Ironside and they used "muh mocap" excuse. Only few years ago we found out about Ironside's cancer.

It was one of those games that /v/ really seethed about when it launched and still parrots those ancient opinions to this day, simply because they had to change the voice actor and because you play as a black guy in a couple of levels in the campaign. It was a pretty good game though overall.

Yeah, CT hit that perfect middle ground for tension. You could ghost a mission if you were careful, but the AI wasn’t braindead either-guards would start murmuring to themselves the second you knocked out a light or left a door swinging. It actually made you feel like a frickin’ spy instead of Rambo in a wetsuit. Then Blacklist came in with drone strikes and yoga-pants Sam and it all went to hell.
