Also there are some ABSOLUTE FUCKING BASED sets. I took picrel when I was in China, it was at display at a toy store for everyone to see kek. I was so sad that I couldn't bring it with as it was massive and wouldn't fit my case

Honestly that could be a big part of it. Obviously there are other components like the silhouette being more blocky or rough than newer releases. And less pieces in general and more large parts not as many tiny ones.
but yeah there is just something about it I even find the old boxes comfy not just for Lego starwars but lots of other late 90s early 2000s toys. They were just creative while usually still being aesthetically pleasing. I unironically may buy a few old retro starwars sets used or something.
One I always wanted despite how simple it looks is one of the old Lego tie fighters which I always saw in the toy section as a kid back then

Lego manufactured them in limited amounts and hired people to drop them in random places around the world like on the side of roads they used a helicopter sometimes to just randomly hide them out in nature. You could not buy them. they would give the Lego employees a bag and instruct them to just toss them outside the window as they drove around as rare RNG drops.

Lego was a much higher quality than megabloks in the late 90s and early 2000s. But by the mid 2000s megabloks started improving their quality dramatically. Megabloks for their massive flaws in quality made up for it sometimes with how creative or ambitious some of their lines were. They were the wildcard building block line. unfortunately a lot of the earliest megabloks shit that looked cool you would unironically need to glue or something sometimes but I always got the impression that it was a company made by guys who just wanted to make cool shit despite not having the skill or expertise to properly do so. I still am a large fan of the megabloks dragons line. They also had some cool stuff off the top of my head like magwarriors, magnetic buildable fantasy knights, and gyrofighters or whatever the fuck they were called where they were bionicle looking things that had bootleg beyblade weapons. They also had some cool line I never bought with mechs. Like a giant neon green spider mech with missles and shit on it.

Lego lets you build things. You don't always want to UNbuild things, at least not right away; you're a kid and want to show that shit off- but if you've got some little miner dudes with drills and Quakeguy helmets, you have a perfect reason to unbuild things AND expand your overall playtime and little world you've made. Mining themes are right up there with transportation themes as 'single sets that greatly expand what you can do.' Think about reading the catalogs as a kid, what was your dream setup? If you were a specific type of future autist, it was probably whatever mining series was current, smoothly flowing into pre-City trains (especially the Metroliner, oh how many hours I drooled over that) to transport all the ores and gems, and then transporting it to a Space theme. Brilliant.

lego had been trying to make an action figure esque technic line for a couple years by the time of bionicle, with slizers and robo racers
i think bionicle was their last attempt and had the most money thrown at it, which is why 2001 had all these other bonuses the prior to didn't have, like the mc donalds toys, the cd's, the cancelled video game, mask packs, etc

UV absolutely does fuck Lego but part of what you might be seeing is actual color difference, the old light and dark grey colors were warmer and a little yellow or rustic colored, while the new ones are more of a flat light grey and a VERY obviously cool-tinted dark grey (leading to people calling the new greys blue-grey, or bley, as in 'dark bley looks like Mega Blox, i hate it').

As coal fell out of favor the line was cancelled, but they brought it back as power miners for a similar psyop where Lego agreed to create propaganda for big DIAMOND. Once we reach space and start mining on asteroids and other planets you can expect the next iteration of Lego rock raiders. The real question here is who does big coal and big diamond work for?

I remember sitting in his office putting it together (also being a retard and not finding a piece for 20 minutes thinking it wasnβt in the box) but eventually found it. was a good day. the late 90s and early. 2000s was an amazing time to be a starwars fan of you were growing up. Lego starwars came out not long after this. Then we got KOTOR SWBF1/2 REPUBLIC COMMANDO and all the cool figures and toys and games based on episodes 1 2 and 3 it was like a Star Wars renaissance. One of my earliest games I played and my first FPS was starwars shadows of the empire on the n64. My dad showed me the original trilogy on vhs and the timing was perfect because not long after this is when episode 1 debuted. Instead of having to wait like 10 or 20 years between 4 5 and 6 to see episode 1 I got to grow up with 4 5 and 6, got to experience some of the extended universe content, and then like 3 years later the prequels started up. Iβm really grateful for those times growing up but unfortunately it spoiled me because I thought starwars would surely keep pumping out kino for the rest of my life and by the mid 2010s it was OVER.

He was really really cool, I think of him every day. died a year ago. he got filtered unfortunately by the sewer level in shadows of the empire but frankly Iβm surprised he made it that far.he was more of a DOOM or HERETIC PC guy, I donβt think he had ever played a game with the ability to look up and down before that. It was probably revolutionary for him. Years later when we played halo I had to teach him how dual analog stick controls worked. Interestingly he insisted on inverted controls. we got through halo 1 and 2 and never got to halo 3 before he passed. We played those during covid. then after Covid I got busy with work and I feel bad we never completed the trilogy because he said he wanted to. Bugs me any time I think of halo now.
During the late 90s he bought me a n64 and starfox, then later bought me shadows of the empire when I saw it at target. but he took the console with him and kept it in our den/game room for a week because he would try to play it and progress after getting home from work. I think itβs hella funny in retrospect because obviously he was impressed enough with MY new game that he bought for ME that it became his new game for a week and I didnβt get to play it almost at all initially. he was probably like 35ish or something at the time and knowing people around that age on here or friends of mine I can completely picture someone at 33-35 reacting this way to a game when theyβre still βyoungβ especially it being a βfully 3d gameβ.

Letβs be honest here I think a giant percentage of autistic adults (not shitting on them I have friends that are autistic and are mechanical engineers or software engineers) grew up obsessed with building toys. Something about the autistic mind craves the ability to build with blocks. (Iβm probably on the spectrum too)
If you want to know how deep the rabbit hole goes I have even found studies that there are more autistic children born in cities with tech jobs. Probably because autistic adults live there to do their jobs that require autism and they end up having autistic kids who (to be relevant to the topic) NEED legos.

it absolutely is
im a kinesiology undergrad and part of the course involves childhood development and working with special needs kids
basically brain development and kinetic/motor skills development are very interlinked and build off of each other
imagination and creativity is a skill which a child learns through play by manipulating(fine motor/tactile hand skills) their perceived environment(perceptive skills) to fit their imagination(mental skills) it basically links every fundamental basic skill together that a child learns
>>718360134
id counter that its due to arrested development
non autistic (healthy) adults also have creative outlets as well, think of every hobby that requires tinkering, or sport that requires gross motor skills
the change is that their creative expression is no longer an abstract concept from their head but the adult mentally "building" off of their environment
play is also essential as a social enabler which leads into developing social skills (sharing, empathy, learning facial cues), ipads also cause this to be fucked up
basically the #science says play with your fucking kids and don't give them drugs

I was a little off when I responded to him about autism. I think the lack of physical activity contributes to higher autism rates, which falls in line with cities with tech jobs having higher autism rates. Children need to use their whole body to properly develop their brain, things like running, jumping, climbing, and playing with objects they can pick up with their hands are all crucial for a childβs development. Sitting them down at a desk in a school for 8 hours a day and then sitting them down in front of a screen for the rest of their waking hours should be considered child abuse the same way giving a kid alcohol or weed is.

Itβs insane that everythinf from 20 years ago is expensive now. I donβt even think itβs because itβs getting βretroβ I think itβs partially because people are realizing the majority of new shit from the last decade is fucking boring and a lot of older shit was simply cooler so now both old and younger people are scooping everythinf up. Applies to videogames also like people paying 100.00 for shit you could have gotten for 5.00 at GameStop in 2012.

That's because they knew those sets WOULD end up as random pieces, where today they end up as display pieces in some basedboys's cabinet.
Just this weekend I was visiting my mother and I found my old X-Wing in a drawer. It was one of the very first Star Wars kits, if not THE very first overall. At one point I could build that thing without instructions just from memory.
