Itโ€™s a shame.

It had a lot of potential to massively improve gameplay of DS1, but they made it so easy that none of the new systems even matter. With new systems you need to add gameplay challanges that require utilising them. Otherwise you have a million things no one uses because itโ€™s simply less efficient than just driving a truck filled with 2 tons of cargo wherever you need to go.

> High altitude low oxygen areas? Sounds like a tricky complication.
Oh wait, it does literally nothing unless you stand AFK in low oxygen oxygen area for like 30 minutes. I donโ€™t think I ever saw my oxygen meter go lower than 90% and properly 100% completed the game (S ranked all 400 orders).

> bushfires get a big intro mission with special device to help put them out. Dialog implies itโ€™s a random event that can happen anywhere.
Lmao, of course not, thereโ€™s exactly 1 area thatโ€™s on fire, and itโ€™s completly unused except for one order, and even then itโ€™s irrelevant because thereโ€™s large safe paths right through it, including directly to objective. Itโ€™s only a danger if you decide to leave clearly marked path and jump into a fire for no reason

> remote location thatโ€™s annoying to get to? Maybe Iโ€™ll need zip line network or other considerations.
Lmao again. Litterally none. Every single location can be effortlessly driven to. Some appear to be annoying to reach, but from another angle itโ€™s a perfectly flat road with no obstacles or enemies. Outside of combat and extremely rare recovery mission in hard location there is never any reason to get out of truck.

Game gives you 1000 solutions to problems that donโ€™t exist. Like litterally donโ€™t exist, why give me a fire extinguisher gun if I never ever need (or even slightly benifit from) putting out a fire. Because there are none.

DS1 was a good foundation, but didnโ€™t go far enough, it was a bit too easy, DS2 couldโ€™ve remidied that, instead it removed all difficulty.

I was absolutely tricked into getting this.

Everyone liked it because it was so silly. Funni cutscene and funni gadgets and funni characters. And now it's not hard anymore wow.

But the gameplay is just so fucking easy.

The only thing that the first one had was the struggle on getting from point to point with very limited tools. That was were all the fun was bookended by wacky lore and cutscenes.

The second one nullified that by giving you fucking cars and infinite guns right after the first map. Its just so easy to do everything. Now you play the game to see cutscenes or to upgrade roads and shit like its some crafting bullshit game where you roam around collecting resources so you can make shit to make collecting resources faster. Bullshit

I beat DS1 Directors Cut last year in one sitting. The BT's are a bigger problem, but the game isn't hard either. But this game is definitely way fucking easier, theres so many options on how to do things that just completely negate all the challenges that might arise

Very good assessment of the game, I was pissed and confused that the tar cannon was absolutely pointless after the first use as well. Theres a singular second mission where you have to run through fire to save a bird, and i found someones tar cannon nearby and used it for a minute. Then i just said fuck it and ran through the flames, and what do you know - i barely got hurt at all.
I had a lot of fun with the game but i dont really know how it could be "fixed" in a directors cut. He'd have to somehow introduce a LOT of new challenges and threats in an environment thats already solves its own problems by giving you so many possible routes. The fact that the ending leaves it open, or even suggests there will be a 3rd one really has me wondering what else can be done with this setting, aside from more vehicles (we haven't driven a boat or been in a plane of any kind yet
