Was the Dreamcast really ahead of its time?

PC gamers beware. This is the level of skill youre dealing with for console players.

Now is the time to put aside your weak "human" side, and join me in REMAKING this world!

Man that thing was something else. Too bad it was run by Sega, the unfailingly moronic retard of the video games industry.

That little brought arcades into the home and had all these awesome little features that console never saw before (or even after).

You could literally take the memory card out of the controller (which itself was a tiny video game system) and play it throughout the day or on the can to unlock stuff on your game saves.

Leave it to Sega to be given diamonds and flush them down the toilet because they have no earthly idea what to do with diamonds though.

a pro splatoon player would eat you for breakfsst

moving so fast keys would pop off your keyboard and your mouse feet would start melting just trying to keep up

Have some perspective. The Dreamcast was a very nice machine for a paltry $200. A decent gaming PC cost several times more, pic related.

I have to admit, it looks very aesthetical.

The VMU was a pointless gimmick. It had only 100KB, pathetic next to the PS2's 8MB (or even larger unofficial ones).

not really, it was more "of the past" than ahead of its time
people forget how dominant arcades were and how successful sega was in the space. dreamcast was actually neogeo esque as it was codeveloped and shared architecture with the NAOMI arcade board. sega hitched their wagon to an arcade design philosophy (monkey ball, crazy taxi, doa2, house of the dead....) at precisely the worst time to do so. which is why dreamcast rules, and also why it failed

Are those things truly good? I have a working Dreamcast but seriously short on VMUs.

Nope lol

The VM2 is a little finicky with how it manages saves on the SD card. It essentially acts as multiple VMUs that you switch between with a dedicated button.
It has some decent PC software for backing up your saves, but I'd probably recommend waiting for the VMUpro from 8bitmods to come out.

Yeah, given the Steam Deck does this. Can't wait for the Steam Deck 2 to have the Steam Controller 2 (Ibex).

>mouse and keyboard for FPS
It should have become the standard for consoles. SEGA were ahead of their time and the death of the DreamCast easily set back gaming as a whole by a minimum of 10 years.

Nintendo felt like they were trying to keep the spirit alive now Nintendo Switch 2 feels like a console gaining PC-like controls while Valve's Steam Deck is a cross between a PC and a console. Fuck Sony and Microsoft, those bastards set gaming back for years. Microsoft's cancer is why PC handhelds that aren't the Steam Deck will die off.
