if you're having a hard time change your build, there is always a thing that will make whatever you're stuck on easier, think about weaknesses and mobility
don't get overly attached to a specific playstyle

its pretty fun, lots of action and a good variety of viable builds. I dont know if the same stuff that was overpowered on launch is but gunning for what everyone else built kind of takes away from the experience.

Just remember that it doesn't matter how meta your build is if you look lame.

expect to run up against walls that hard counter you
expect to then change your build or learn the boss
expect to feel like a fucking freak beast the moment you kick the ass that has been kicking yours
expect a great OST
expect to feel pride for your machine
and also consider installing a mod to depatch balteus before you get to him because beating him feels incredible

This game specifically is all about getting burst damage in during a stagger window. Nothing else really works, unless they've patched the game since release idk

here are some tips
>mech building is easier than it looks, just press the button that tells you what each thing in the UI means and you'll figure out.
>Boost Speed is your speed. >350 means you're going fast enough to passively dodge most shit
>BURST DAMAGE. bring in a weapon that does tons of damage when enemies get staggered because that's how you deal shitloads of damage. Melee weapons, big rockets and direct damage cannons are your friends. Zimmerman shotguns are easy mode for the game
>leg jumping distance means you boost further, even with bipedals
>tank legs are great but you gotta build decent defense
>you can easily dodge shit by just being arborne directly above an enemy. most enemies can't aim directly upwards BUT a lot of them can move out of the way to hit you or just go fast enough for you to not be able to stay above them

A super fun game that has different endings and missions on repeat playthroughs. Don't be afraid to completely reorganize your mech for whatever mission. You can save configurations for what you need too. Do not be a pussy when it comes to melee, most weapons can hit a few times or charge up to hit big but you should only do that when your enemy is staggered.
Also do the combat tutorials, they give you items for free (the game tells you this but many retards ignore that.)

Use tetrapod legs to fly trough the levels, then use a lightweight (schneider) mech to S rank them.
