The game had Exile as a character who consistently chose duty and responsibility over oath and integrity. A fundamentally masculine concept schisming the only organization you ever felt at home in because they were failing to meet your own sense of moral standards.
Leaving the girl you love because she had become the enemy of reason. That conversation you have on Telos with Atris is straight up the post breakup closure conversation.
Also "Revan" as he exists in the lore is a consequence of the Exile being there to prosecute his war for him.
The Exile's guilt, the fact that he's got 4+ chicks that want to bone him, KOTOR2 is meant to be played from a male perspective, but it allows the alternative because it's a fuckin RPG. You tell your own story.
Same thing with ME, only there's much more consideration into making Shepard a gender neutral character bordering on feminine
