How is it nowadays? Worth buying? Worth playing solo? Is it fun?

Depends.
On vanilla you won't do much solo base bulling as it hard to find and haul construction materials by yourself, so you'll always be on the move, spawn loot die repeat.
On modded servers you have a chance at basebuilding but you won't stand a chance against clans. You'll get raided and you'll be unable to raid.
It's complex as fuck despite looking quite simplistic. There's thousands of hidden mechanics and it's still updated. Don't buy the dlc maps though

I like the idea of just getting a gun, running around and surviving. But whenever I see people talk about the game they say how you'll just always get shot on sight and how playing alone is a waste of time.
I played the Arma 2 mod back in the day and it used to be quite fun, but that could be the nostalgia talking.

If you decide to play do not listen to reddit fags.DO NOT PLAY ON OFFICIAL SERVERS they are full of chink cheaters.
Download the DayZSA launcher, look for vanilla servers. Those have no mods but they're moderated.
If you want modded servers, the DayZSA launcher will automatically download all the mods that you need

honestly, i watched DayZ videos long ago and i always wanted to play it, but the thought of being integrated, REALLY integrated into a clan, sounds near impossible, how are you realistically gonna convince someone to be let into a clan as, not only a fresh spawn, but a new player?

It’s the best and most immersive hardcore survival game but it will forever be a bug-riddled janky shit. If you do play I recommend servers that are more vanilla than modded up the ass. Those super modded servers are beyond retarded and don’t capture the essence of the game at all, they’re like shitty rust clones.
