Obsession with story in video game is most definitely a brain issue on my end, but I feel like the game led me on with all of it's poems and ancient riddles and stupid shit like that only for there to be no explanation behind most of it. Even Skyrim, which is full of shit writing, still had tons of subtle ways of answering questions. Like that lighthouse rat murder quest on the icy coastline where you read about the dead fathers wishes while investigating and if you take the time to put his ashes in the fire so he can furfill them you get a sick spell.
That shit was fucking baller.
Why couldn't hollow knight have more of that?
Obstacles are scary the first time, but typically after you clear an obstacle course you are allowed to pass by without having to do it over and over and over again, right?
Then it just becomes tedious work.
>complaining about an exploration game requiring a sense of direction
In open world this is totally fine, but when you are a rat in a maze like in Hollow Knight, you have ZERO sense of direction the first time you play. You can't just be like "go down" because every way is blocked.
The only people who scoff at the idea of using the map are the people who have played the game 99999 times and have the muscle memory. Total BS.
