What first party game do you think will be the next console seller?
Something that'll make everyone go out and buy the console just to play the game, like how Breath of the Wild was for the Switch or God of War was for the PS4

Word you're looking for is system seller or killer app. Sony's 1st party development pipeline has been fucked hard by Hermen (Netherlands retard) and Jim Ryan (UK retard), they haven't put out a new Gran Turismo/God of War/Uncharted so they pretty much have a dry spell. In addition the bulk of their recent purchase studios like Bungie are on a live service decline with cancellations. Sony is fucked but the extent of the damage, if it can be fixed, is unknown. Have their studios been ravaged by VR, live service distractions, and movie walking games to the extent they can't recover? Unknown.

Xbox's is easy. They have viciously destroyed their IPs. Halo Infinite was supposed to be a landmark title that would have like 10 years of content, including main story DLC episodes. The game dropped dead after it's free to play multiplayer season dried up and they fired top dogs of 343 Studios and rebranded them as Halo Studio. Forza's primary studio for Motorsports was gutted, with Horizon studios being left alone. Gears of War is no longer synonymous with the Xbox brand and horde was the big multiplayer component of its era, but they are irrelevant. The series is undergoing a brand reboot, which includes releasing Gears of War on Playstation 5 which is insane brand suicide. The other games on your Xbox list are either cancelled or in 9 years of development: Fable reboot and State of Decay 3 are 8+ years dev hell games. Project Perfect Dark reboot was cancelled after 5-6 years of development. Ninja Gaiden 4 was obviously primed to be an exclusive that's multiplatform, that looks like the only game to keep an eye out from Xbox in the future. The South of Midnight studio is allegedly closing if it hasn't been official, because it was just another churning wage slave game for GamePass rent DRM.

Nintendo has a really weak Switch 2 1st year. But they don't feel threatened in the way Sony/Xbox are due to having their own lane in the game industry.

>Sony's 1st party development pipeline
is pretty solid?
>inb4 not exclusives
and? normies don't care
they will buy their ps5 to play gta6 at launch
>they haven't put out a new Gran Turismo
gt7 exists, being crossplatform is irrelevant
>God of War
same
>Uncharted
naughty dog is not doing that shit anymore, they won't return to 7th gen IPs anymore
>Bungie are on a live service decline with cancellations
bungie essentially scammed them yeah
>Sony is fucked but the extent of the damage,
really? is sony aware of that?

I ran out of text space so for Nintendo the only game that meets your system seller criteria is Mario Kart World. The big unknown is if Nintendo will treat it as a live service game with content updates, because to not do so would be a missed opportunity. Donkey Kong Bananza came and went without lasting impact, unless I'm mistaken. It's a nice game to have if you own the console, but not a must-have to go out and get a Switch 2. Rest of that list are Switch 1 ports which anyone can get already. Nintendo isn't playing their full hand right now because MonolithSoft and the Zelda team are quiet. It is embarrassing that putting off a Switch 2 announcement for so long and they don't have a killer lineup like the Switch 1's first year.

So we danced around the question long enough, of the 3 Nintendo has Mario Kart World as their killer app to sell a console. Sony is putting out their games on PC which narrows down their killer apps, but for now Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding meets your qualification for killer app. Xbox doesn't have an exclusive so their list cannot be considered "killer app" in the traditional sense of that word making people go out and buy a console. I also think the quality of Xbox games are hurt by their GamePass wage slave churning out filler content for their renting sub slaves. Still I'll give it to Ninja Gaiden 4 as almost-1st party since Xbox financed the whole thing before going multiplatform in the end.

If Sony greenlit 12 live service games and 10 of them are cancelled, they wasted time and resources. Last of Us 2 was supposed to get a multiplayer component that was dropped. I don't care about Last of Us as an IP after 2, but they should've yanked the cord on that and got NaughtyDog to move on. Sony also missed the chance to work with FromSoftware. From is working with Nintendo on an exclusive IP with Nintendo and would imagine FromSoftware has leftover staff to work on other games (as they just shipped elden ring night whatever), put simply I don't think FromSoftware can handle 3 big games at once. They have a Nintendo contract and their own internal project, Sony can't poach them for Bloodborne 2 or a new IP for a couple years now.

All I was saying is Sony took damage but I don't know how dire it is, because their 1st party studios have been way too quiet. As with Nintendo's, but at least we know Nintendo isn't cancelling projects left and right like Sony and Xbox are doing. The last big game to be cancelled was Metroid Prime 4, which they went public about them rebooting the game to be reworked by RetroStudios.

That's sad...seemed from the direct that Nintendo was hoping it'd be a home run

Why are you posting two dead brands next Nintendo? It should be Switch + Steam Deck.
