>RPG requires grinding
Anonymous No.718353449
not requiring grinding is a sign of good RPG design. The natural flow of gameplay should naturally leave the player at appropriate levels for encounters.
"Grinding" is the universal bandaid option for fixing flaws in RPG game design.

Honestly? I can't remeber a single JRPG I've played that actually required grinding. Most times people are just really bad at the game and end up grinding as a crutch.
Take a game like The Genius of Sappheiros, for example. It's really hard but you don't really need to grind to do anything, hell, I don't even kill all the mobs in a dungeon most of the time. Even then, my friend who was stuck at the main game's final boss decided his only option was to grind, which he did for a pretty damn long time, and it did help in the end, so you can see how people can think grinding is required sometimes.

Arc rise Fantasia had grinding as a necessary component to using their weapon system and bosses were so unbalanced.

Older JRPGs needed some grinding too since there wasn't really mechanics you could engage with to make things easier at a lower level.

>JRPG
>grinding is akin to anime filler episodes
>grinding consists of selecting your first or strongest attack then running in a circle until the next encounter
>repeat this process for hours
>your reward for enduring this is getting to read text boxes
no thanks, bro.
i would rather read the synopsis on wikipedia while listening to the soundtrack than put hours into a JRPG.
