When ER launched great swords were awful. Anyone who beat the game with one has my absolute respect. They were slow and hit like a wet noodle well bleed was some sort of holding gun.

My first build was a STR Claymore build, came back and redid it as a Quality build when I understood the mechanics better

The thing that really makes colossals borderline cheese is how much they trivialize non-boss PvE. There's so many enemies that are a pain in the ass for anybody using another weapon type, but colossal users can just waltz up and mash R1 until their health bar disappears.
I think "you didn't beat the game" is a retarded mindset, but it's undeniable that colossals are the easiest weapon type to beat the game with.

To me, a "real" build in ER is one that doesn't put a single point in vigor. Anything else goes but putting a single point in vigor makes the build disqualified and gay.

DEX was always easy mode in every game it's the classic R1 R1 R1 spam that benefits the most from weapon upgrades and buff items
Even in Elden Ring with enemies having ultra long combos, rapid DEX weapons with bleed and freeze just built up and erased bosses left and right
All of the best weapons like Nightrider Flails require DEX
STR players trying to play the traditional whack-and-step-back playstyle got fucked over, especially in the late game when enemy scaling turned into a typical Fromsoft DLC and you could no longer one shot your average enemy anymore
And shit like Rune Bears were designed to just shit all over STRchads
DEXfags are always easymode losers that's why there's so many of them, and in a game like L2 Ring they were in their element
The best starting class is the Samurai for fuck sake, it has a weebsword that can beat the game with its weapon art, that's how fucked DEX is

The advantage of big fuck off weapons in Elden Ring is a)stagger and b)they require a lower number of hits to kill something so you have to get lucky relative to your skill level for a lower number of successful attacks. The downsides are they slow you down like crazy in a game where every boss is on meth. Its a very blatantly balanced out thing. Lategame and major dlc bosses are absolutely fucked with a weapon like this if you don't use any ashes or summons or anything.

STR builds were useless in Elden Ring for a very long time.
IIRC it wasn't until they changed poise, weight, damage and attack speed that they were viable.
Base game (maybe up until the DLC?) it was a disadvantage to use heavy/STR weapons.

Not really since you can take some health trades to stancebreak most bosses even at late game assuming you've invested in vig and some armor then just heal the hp back after the crit.
