ADS is fine. /v/ was just mad because the other kind of shooter wasn't being released. Now we have modern doom and boomershooters out the ass.
Focusing on actual aiming is fine and cool and immersion.

ADS was always good in tactical shooters where you want to force the player to slow down and lose situational awareness while shooting
the issue is more that the classic arcade shooter is a dead genre outside of CS

I like it in singleplayer games when I threaten an NPC and ADS then shoot him but in Multiplayer games it sucks because it slows movement speed and the map and game balance will have to suffer for it. Encourages camping a bit more too.

I remember in quake 2 a bunch of my friends and I used a bind to change the fov to 30 to zoom in for easier railgun snipes. I think mine was on z or something though, not right click.
