Halo 4 starts out strong in spite of Chief's new armor design. But it quickly, and I do mean QUICKLY, falls. There are hints of talented game devs throughout Halo 4's campaign. A few great sequences. But it is completely and totally marred by the rest of 343i's staff going
>SEE! We're just as good as Bungie!
really quickly.
Most blatant offender being the new "Forerunner" weapons.
>Assault Rifle but it uses "hard light"
>Pistol but it uses "hard light"
>Battle Rifle but it uses "hard light"
>Shotgun but it uses "hard light"
>Sniper Rifle but it uses "hard light"
These examples are extra egregious because all 5 of these weapons were lazy copy/paste versions of the UNSC weapons except you got to carry more ammo with them with lackluster secondary fires(if they even have them). It was 343's way of shoehorning you into using their "new and better" guns instead of your Ol' Reliables. Not to say Bungie didn't experiment, but in their Halos they didn't make carbon copies "except better". They had a clear understanding of weapon balance and what types of weapons were most fun for the game they were making.
Reach is a good example. Made by Bungie but maintained by 343i. Yet each weapon filled a niche. Some better than others but it was still fun to use each weapon.
There is fun gameplay to be had in Halo 4, especially in Co-Op. But don't put your expectations too high(hard to do given 343i's rep). But H4 is worth at least 1 playthrough with a buddy.
Notable moments:
>first time you use a SAW

Trust me, I do yearly replays of CE, 2, 3, Reach, ODST, 4 and Infinite with my best friend. CE to Reach are the peak of Halo. I would even count Infinite in there purely on the Fun Factor scale.
I'm drunk. Tired of typing/defending/extrapolating. Play the games for yourself. CE to 4. Maybe Infinite if you like Halo and Farcry. Form your own opinions. But fact of the matter is, 343i never measured up to Bungie Halo. Infinite's campaign is as close as we got.
