Which is worse, playing a FPS without a mouse or playing a racer without a wheel?

God is better with controller

FPS without a mouse, you can manage racing games even sims with a controller without having to cheat.

The vast majority of racing games, even 'sims' are played mostly on keyboard or gamepad including the people at the top of leaderboards. It is similar to the FPS situation in that the game has to partially play itself for you in order to make up for the loss of precision and range.
FPS aim assist is fundamentally much worse though. It often makes an average controller player aim as well or better than the best mouse players while it is active, so analog stick can "be competitive." It also tends to have instant reaction times while humans are much slower. You don't usually get such big advantages in racing games. It's also more unjust because there are other options for controller like motion sensing aim which are decent enough to make aim assist unnecessary
(and before console babies complains about motion controls - the mouse is a motion controller).

Steering assist is just as effective as aim assist it's just the game has more acknowledged complexity to it than I STEER GUD unlike FPS monkeys that think clicking better than some slav is the meaning of video games.

FPS with no aim assist are way more playable than driving games with no steering assist, and yes you can post the Rainbow 6 Siege webm all you want, if you think otherwise you have just never played a game with raw steering input.

no, I fully realize that racing sims are unplayable without racing assists. It's just that 1. they don't give you better reaction time and 2. there are not alternative control schemes good enough to justify getting rid of the assist for the mass market. you just need a wheel

When a car starts sliding and Timmy Gamepad moves his thumb 2cm to execute a perfect automated countersteer while a wheel player is flailing around trying to spin the wheel fast enough without overcorrecting do you think that is not giving a better reaction time you dumb cunt?

Here's your issue
Try driving a RWD car dirt 2.0 on controller without any assists
FFB wheel allows you to feel frontal axle and how it reacts to surfaces, letting your catch sliding early. Controller player will enter the slide and manage it with an assist, steering wheel player won't enter the slide at all because he would feel the car much better.

If your steering isn't instantly going to two turns of lock then you are "cheating"

it's the opposite retard lol
instant binary steering gives kbm players an advantage over analog input because it allows for quicker reaction times
if anything, turn smoothing exists only to make it behave closer to how it would control with a stick

racer without wheel
mouse helps you play better competitively
wheel also does that but enhances the experience a ton even with casual or arcade racers

FPS without mouse
racing without wheel isn't even as bad as flight without stick (VR controls can be just as good as stick controls though)

Game in OP is Sega Super GT, player is from youtube and claims it's been one of his favorite games for decades so he must be quite experienced with it, he doesn't play sims afaik but his channel is nothing but playing old arcade racing games with wheels but those were designed for wheels too.

He manages to get ~31/32s on the first track here playing with a thrustmaster and says he cannot get these results with his second wheel (cheaper logitech). So even with a wheel, not all are equal. That's like FPS pros who weigh their mice or the mechanical keyboard autism, chasing those milligram and millisecond differences. I'm inexperienced with racing games and playing with a controller, can only get it down to 35s. I cannot countersteer/drift like he does. I could maybeee get it down to 34 but I doubt I could ever reach 31 with a stick. I'd be really impressed to see footage of someone perfecting that race with a stick but I couldn't find any.

Oher tracks, or other games like Daytona are much worse because more sharp turns where drifting is obviously the key. Daytona is interesting because you can really see how obvious it is, just read reviews from the console ports and everyone agrees it plays so much worse and cars are like sliding on ice. I'm curious if Sega even bothered increasing the timers for the console ports? Because those timers are brutal.

Would keyboard be better, split in the middle or?

Console controllers after 5th gen were a mistake. They're cheap pieces of shit that still cost too much, they're the white bread of input devices.
3D games after the early 3D era are just too complicated to be controlled with dual analogs, the Mario64 paradigm was almost immediately obsolete upon the introduction of mouselook in PC games, especially after games stopped being optimized to be fun to control on a controller and instead just shifted to "practical" control schemes with complicated assists to make the player believe that they were playing the game correctly.

hardware disparity on wheels is much larger compared to mice/keyboards
better FFB is smoother and more responsive, better materials have better grip, better pedals are more precise and easier to handle, better shifters are faster and easier to grip/switch, and have more gears

desu a lot of arcade racers would be unfriendly to you if you try emulating them with anything but wheel
i'd kill myself if i emulated initial d arcade stage 5 or sega super gt with controller or god forbid a keyboard
there are exceptions like proper home ports such as initial d special or street stage but arcade stage 2 and 3 are still faster compared to the home ports
i got into outrun 2 with controller recently and all the top players use wheel cause of certain techniques like the no-drift brake turning
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oycGrlknziI
i definitely can't match the precision of turning this guy does on even the first section on controller

That's just bullshit. FFB is so bad in games that it gives no information whatsoever. If you press the gas 1cm too far you are fucked. I tried playing on a wheel and the amount of countersteering required to play any game is killing all the fun. Might as well reverse bind left and right since you countersteer all the time anyway. You turn that shit 2 times and you have to go back to center in split second or you are fucked.
