Based. Sometimes that’s all that needs to be said.

As amusing as it was I thought it was a little jarring compared to the tone of the rest of the game

That's what I loved about it.

Weird. I found the remake boring(I never played SS1 either), but I absolutely loved SS2. I replay it every year give or take.

I've tried playing OG System Shock, Enhanced Edition and the Remake. Far as I can tell, it's a hard game to get into. System Shock 2 is much more streamlined and accessible. It has also become an almost yearly replay to me. I love the concept of SS1, I would love to be able to play through the entire thing. But it was in that weird era of PC shooters where intuitive controls and game design trump all. Same reason I don't think STAR WARS: Dark Forces 2 doesn't get the recognition it deserves. First Person PC games just weren't intuitive enough at the time. Especially System Shock 1. It was just too ambitious for the tech at the time.

I was 6 when SS1 came out. My only real exposure to first person PC gaming at that time was DOOM I&II and whatever RPG my Dad was playing at the time. Think it was Ultima. Shit was just too esoteric and interpretive.

Engineering is THE filter level, along with Liberty Island in Deus Ex

There is no Engineering branch in SS2? It's Navy(Balance), Marines(Martial) and OSS(Psionics).

wtf are you talking about? I've never completed SS1, any version, because it's a fucking mess.

The only way to stop autism is an opposite but proportional level of autism. SHODAN was a megalomaniacal level of the 'tism. Only thing that could stop her was an absolute realist dose of 'tism.
