At least GTA 3 and 4 (and San Andreas, to some degree) had new tech and that made them pretty fun to mess around in.
5 was just... Kind of there? I never even finished it because I get bored halfway through everytime. And with 6, even Rockstar are already saying they're toning down the edginess and comedy a lot so it's just going to be a wannabe hollywood movie with a terrible, generic story like RDR2.
