You just kinda pinch them like you're about to gently rotate a jewel thief's lockpick set. They're tiny, yeah, but surprisingly responsive once you get used to the feel. Not great for marathon sessions, though - feels more like a novelty to flex on your shelf than a serious controller for sweating ranked.

Aesthetics because these are analog sticks, not digital. You're not going to use analog sticks for fighting games or shmups, and it's very awkward to use the way you'd use an arcade stick, and there's less grip and too much height for the thumb to use it like a normal analog stick, so basically it's just dumb shit like when they released their first mouse, something that looks neat and works like fucking dogshit

Was really hyped for Pro3 to replace my DS4 because it feels mushy after a decade of hard work.
But holy shit they crammed so many useless shit into Pro3 just to bloat the price, no fucking way I'm paying extra for fucking meme "arcade sticks", magnetic swappable button (for what motherfucking reason?), and I don't even use back buttons let alone fucking L4 R4 buttons.
Can I get a GOOD quality gamepad but without all that shit? Should I just grab Pro 2 before they stopped making them?

The processors on the controller that handle and transmit data. 8Bitdo uses some underpowered one with slow and unstable output on their Bluetooth controllers, but ones without Bluetooth in the name are responsive wired or wireless (even over Bluetooth, ironically)
I didn't realize that the Pro 3 out currently is technically Pro 3 Bluetooth, so I guess there's a decent chance of a Pro 3 Wireless with better internals at $50-60 in the coming weeks.

L4/R4: L3/R3

If your controller has different profiles you can change assign those for each game you currently play. I assigned R4 on select for NightRein that way I can open the map while running.

Polling rate itself is a meme, and controllers that advertise polling rate are doing it for marketing because it means nothing on its own.
That said, most responsive controllers poll somewhere between 500-2000Hz. Polling rate doesn't truly equal latency, so it's possible for a 125Hz controller to be responsive as well (Gulikit Elves 2 in wired Switch mode, Xbox One, etc.)

Worth noting that consoles and phones/handhelds don't necessarily support the full range of polling rate PC does; it's possible for a 1000Hz controller to lag like hell on a Switch's 125Hz USB polling, but still be responsive over its 500(?)Hz bluetooth.

He's not wrong, whether you have thin 2" thumbs or fat 3" ones your thumbs shouldn't extend past the inner rim of the stick caps regardless. DS1-3 all have the sticks close enough together for thumbs to touch, DS4 spaces them further and Dualsense even further to prevent that. The different stick cap design from DS4 forward also helps, thumbs tend to slide inward over time on convex stick caps.

. It varies between brands but none of them can say.. offer the equivalent haptics and adaptive triggers of DualSense or any of the other features built in, but even some of their inputs seem laggy, or their sticks are carried exclusively on marketing bullshit about "hall effect / TMR" which doesn't magically mean the sensors are any better, it fixes ONE potential problem of drift due to potentiometer degrading over time but cheap hall effect bullshit is still cheap bullshit and worse when you're paying for more it on marketing nonsense. These could be made better ,but so long as its Windows only chinkware with hacked together drivers pretending to be an Xbox360 pad or whatever the fuck to get around some requirement or another. I'd like to see some of these companies make things at parity with first party across the board and then offer new features, but so few of them seem to do that and more of them are now charging more and more for their higher end offerings so its not like its even a big value difference anymore

Depends what is important to you and what you'll use it regarding. As I mention below, it has extra rear buttons. You can also consider other first party controllers depending on your interest, particularly the DualSense which is the most "advanced" controller at the moment (and the DualSense Edge an enhanced variant of that). If you're happy with your Switch Pro and what you're using it for, you can stick with it for now though.
>>718411113
The Switch 2 version has rear "paddle" buttons as well as the 'chat button" among a few other little upgrades. If you were buying something new and wanted a Switch Pro controller, then I'd get Switch Pro 2 these days.

As far as third parties, I've almost always found them wanting generally, such as bad Windows only driver requirements and config for utilities, things that don't work independently across connections (ie wired vs dongle vs BT) and other issues. Some are better than they used to be that's for sure but the prices are also higher and the "paper specs" vs the "experience of using them" can vary significantly.

Though as an aside, we REALLY need Microsoft to hurry up and update XInput to include gyro, touchpad, mic/speaker features and ideally come out with an Elite S3.

As I mentioned they're minor upgrades to how they feel, responsiveness and the like. They aren't major "new" features so if you're happy with your original, then stick with it rather than spending the money. The "new" features like the C button, the 3.5mm jack, or especially the rear "paddle buttons" (known as G buttons I think, GR / GL) are bigger reasons to buy if that's something you're missing, but overall its similar to Switch Pro.

Are you planning to use this with a Switch 2? a PC for emulation? For PC games? What do you do with your existing Switch Pro? The question of what to buy and if you want something different, new features etc.. or just an upgrade may depend on if you should stick around or buy something new.

but yet they've not released any Xbox (or PC) controllers that use that standard or include any of those features. Series X controller doesn't have gyro etc. This also means that almost anything they license - see the 8bitdo Xbox controllers - doe NOT have Gyro, touchpad etc. As far as I see, they are stuck in the past and everyone else is stuck there to comply with their standards otherwise you would see multiplat games with gyro support if the controllers supported it, or Xbox branded or licensed controllers with those features native.

>>718413141
Steam can support Switch 2 Pro now; I'll check it myself later but I'm pretty sure it does as I read about it in the past. However if all those games you play on Steam(even those without native Switch Pro support and thus you need to use Steam Input.) you're fine feature wise - you can use gyro if you wish, you're not bothered by the lack of analogue triggers etc. then by all means stick with your Switch Pro. The Switch Pro 2 will be an upgrade, but if you want different features I'd look at stuff like the DualSense / Edge (which has a different layout and extra features) potentially XboxSeries / Elite S2 but it will lack gyro et al, and maybe some 3rd parties but at least I've had more frustration with some of them. Certain games, like Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding for instance, have an extra benefit with a DualSense in that they use the touchpads, gyro, speaker and other features that, while the game can "get around" without, its nice if you have it, but not a reason to buy in and of itself exclusively. Switch Pro 2 will be a nice step up from the original given the back buttons, but its an expensive one.

Steam Input can do the latter as I said. Speaking of SteamInput though, one thing that's a bit annoying I wish it COULD do
>Dual Joycon motion/gyro inputs
I know it can emulate L or R, but not both. This is the reason that say, Switch emulators typically had to use a fucky custom driver for SDL to expose both motion/gyro being used at the same time, while supporting both JoyCons (or for that matter, JoyCon2s) at the same time. Yuzu's devs got into it early thankfully and I think hardly anyone would see it done if it wasn't for that. Ryujinx's never did for the mainline, but the Greemdev fork eventually implemented it which is a significant move forward. Would be nice if it could be native supported in Linux or at least a SteamInput variable.

I thought of trying to make some sort of multiple inputs exercise game for PC but at the moment its a real bitch to be able to get that kind of support for multi gyro.

Anonymous No.718430085

Most companies don't care
Even the ones that get it right usually do it by accident
And then there's usually no QC put towards d-pads so a controller that has a flawless d-pad for one person might spit accidental diagonals or have no pivot or some other bizarre issue for someone else

There is quite a variety of Haute42 for this same price point. It's true. The C16 by Haute is a solid runner up along with the M Ultra. The M ultra is on sale BTW if anyone is in the market. But I am a sucker for solid audible clicks. And I might fuck around with the wireless mode on 8bitdo. And admittedly, I am a boomer who used to play with the nes controllers when I was a kid so they hit their mark with a slight bit of nostalgia, though that aspect is the least important metric to me.

Yeah what sold me is the wireless mode, clicks, and price point. To me, I just am looking to dip my feet in the water then I'll pick up the Victrix Pro Fs-12 when I can justify it.
