Remember when they tried releasing anime movies and shows on Steam?
Why did they stop?

no marketing, probably no profit, wouldn't be surprised if they figured piracy too

Movies only make money if theyre physical. Otherwise people pirate them.

Steam's media player was (is) inferior and Valve wasn't prepared to do the legal legwork to distribute movies. Money had nothing to do with it as it costs virtually nothing to host anything and any form of digital rental or sale was almost pure profit with little overhead to worry about.

Slap some cheevos on them, put out some desirable badges and im sure people would buy them on sale

Most didnt know it exists and sales were incredibly low.
Steams movie player was also ass nad people wanted the ability to download their bought anime onto their harddrives.

I still have access to the entire only season of Kemono Friends on Steam.

Can't believe they didn't do anything with the property after it finished. Wild.

I'd unironically kill myself if Kemono Friends survived solely through gachashit and vtubers.

They did try, they fired the director and all japanese fans boycotted the thing because of that

You'd have to ask crunchyroll not steam, they were providing the anime. I really do wonder how this even worked, crunchyroll themselves are already only provided with a license of the anime by the actual publisher, and then they lend them out to steam to sell on their platform too...? Must've been a logistical shitshow
I wonder who did non-anime movies, netflix? I bought American Psycho on steam

They did?!?

Almost a decade ago. You can still look at the different titles on SteamDB. Crunchyroll published most of them IIRC.
