Not all anime is created equal though. The Sky games are influenced largely by things like the Gagharv trilogy (the previous Legend of Heroes subseries), other 90s JRPGs and things like Slayers. Cold Steel is deliberately trying to be like Persona 4 and the Battle Harems that were popular around that time. Theres a big disconnect between those two styles. It's why Sky fans think Cold Steel is cringe and Cold Steel fans think Sky is boring.

The fun (gameplay) portion of trails is that it plays like a D&D like SRPG in jrpg terms. You have a party of adventurers who engage in tactical combat on a grid like modern D&D (by modern I mean pretty much anything 3e or higher). As opposed to war games like FE or FFT which are more about fragile units that get deployed to take out other fragile but dangerous units.

Combats in kiseki are meant to be long and dangerous especially on higher difficulty.

There is a fair ammount of difficulty jank and unfun grinding, but if you enjoy tactical combat but wish it was more about your party instead of fielding units and mopping up stuff with reload or your army is permakilled perfectionist autism then kiseki will be fun. if you don't care about any of that and just want the 4 niggas experiance just play on easy.

Downloaded it and it was fucking awesome, one of the best jrpg I've ever played in my life, the ending was fucking insane and downloaded part 2 instantly, it was so fucking cool
Part 3 is not as good mainly because it becomes fucking persona Q, where you're in a hub with copy paste areas of the previous games, so there's no free exploration, nevertheless still good and interesting, the ending is anticlimactic though

Watch them add a lot of action and cliffhangers and turn it into ff7r to make it more interesting since CH1 is pretty tame compared to 2 and 3

I love the end to 1, though. It's a cliffhanger in terms of narrative, but it completely explores the core of Joshua and Estelle's relationship, which is really the foundation of the game. Trails 1 is in no way unique in this regard--many JRPGs of the era including Lunar 2 and to a lesser extent FF7, FF8, FFX and Grandia were more or less held together by a romance.
