Why are you like this?
>make a follow-up to RE4 that is deeper, challenging, more hardcore, and better in nearly every way
>it's universally rejected
Is just like the entire RE4 fanbase just casual shitters and posers that only claim to like it due to memes and reddit calling it a masterpiece?

I just seriously can't wrap my head around this at all. Any fan of RE4's gameplay should absolutely fucking love The Evil Within, it's Mikami's magnum opus, and a game that just gets better and better on replay (the hallmark of any true game)

Why yes we thought it was a good idea to build a digital Matrix and plug all our research people in to the Matrix. What was the point? The point was SCIENCE! how would we ever foresee some of our scientists were latent serial killers who began to dominate the Matrix through a murderous will to power.

People just conform to what's popular and what they have been told is good. Most fans of RE4 don't even actually enjoy it (not saying it's bad game, far from it), but they just nod and smile like they get it just so they can be part of the 'in' crowd. It's just like laughing at a joke that you don't understand just to fit in

They literally never plugged any scientist by choice.
Ruvik made the machine and was the only one who fully comprehended how it worked at the time so he made it so it can only work with him in the system to cuck the not-Illuminati, which decided to instead extract his brain for now while looking for an alternative solution when he was uncooperative and making more trouble than he was worth.
Which was also fine since nobody important was intentionally put into the machine.

The only other non-disposable person connected was the scientist guy from the story, except he caused the game's events and plugged himself alongside Leslie out of desperation since not-Illuminati was looking to get rid of him too, and Leslie was the important person for the not-Illuminati since he could be a potential replacement for Ruvik's brain and the only card the scientist guy had left.
In fact, they were desperately trying to find replacement for Ruvik since they didn't expect him to be able to be conscious but instead he was fucking up the whole system.

tl;dr not a single scientist or anyone non-disposable was ever plugged to the machine by choice, Ruvik was causing trouble, scientist guy did it himself because he was cornered and Kidman was intentionally disposable.

if you want to look at things objectively it's not really that great. the agony crossbow gets overleveled and you end up just roflstomping sections that are supposed to be intimidating with bolt spam.
Anonymous No.718397018
It's interesting but nowhere near as polished as RE4, you can tell it was being made by a new team on an engine they weren't familiar with. TEW2 was much more polished but also less interesting in some ways

I found this game enjoyable. I liked the weird matrix machine story. I hated the sequel and found it so boring I didn’t finish it.

Both Evil Within games are great and superior to the vast majority of RE Games. RE Should have ended in 5 and people should’ve embrace other stuff like EW and Dead Space as successors. Instead, these 2 excellent franchises are dead. RE is a pathetic, embarrassing walking corpse, fans are a bunch of cultist low IQ zealots that buy anything called Resident Evil like the retard browns that buy FIFA games every year.
Anonymous No.718398613
Don't know why people compare this to RE4. RE4 is an assumed B-movie action/horror flick in videogame format with tightly designed encounters revolving around crowd control management and gun/melee mixups. The game will go out of its way to drop ammo for you if you're low. TEW tones down the action with stealth and ressource management, also the gay crossbow with 58 different bolts that was all the rage back then.

TEW was much better aesthetically but it's mechanics were trash. TEW2 was 10 times more fun and had much better replay value.

Let me guess: you either ragequit after the first couple chapters or got your ass handed to you even on casual and blamed the game for it.

The game was fine, but nowhere near as dialed-in as RE1-4, didn't have a strict gameplay system based on the environments and weapons available, and didn't have a controlled experience with a firm structure and enough memorable moments in gameplay. It came off as a loosely made game that didn't have the mechanics perfected for the scenarios presented, and many parts were just kind of meandering and unbalanced like a modern American game. You also kind of felt reset between areas and not that it was one long survival horror journey and you were just kind of popped into levels of varying connection to one another with no definitive way to describe wtf you are playing. RE1 is mostly in a mansiom filled with zombies. RE2 is streets to a police station then sewers and a lab. Evil Within is a whole bunch of shit thrown together.

no, I beat the game
it wasn't very good
the kidman dlc was genuinely borderline unplayable, teeter-tottering on the edge until the final stretch where it just shits the bed supremely

I didn't have any problems with the mechanics of TEW1. I think the game is designed that way to provoke something in the player. TEW2, on the other hand, is very easy and the story falls a little flat.

It's a brutally hard old-school game, I'm not surprised in the slightest that a ton of people got filtered. And honestly 30% completion is not actually bad for a fairly long game in the age of bloated Steam backlogs and steam sales down to just a few dollars. 60% is like the highest you'll pretty much every see, but tons of more niche games are below 10%

Doesn't help that the tutorial is pretty bad, doesn't help you much for the game, and completely misrepresents the rest of the game
Anonymous No.718404693
>>718401813
Correct. The first game has terrible movement
Anonymous No.718405659
>>718403714
while the game runs "fine" on steam it does sometimes need some tinkering depending on the hardware - some newer amd/nvidia cards have weird texture issues - 60fps still breaks some parts of the game in mild ways another other times in major ways like the hospital gurney in the chainsaw chase blocking sebs way and killing him - the game running in a weird windowed mode on first launch on a fresh pc can prevent retards who don't know how to deal with it cause them to never actually play the game
the game pass/xbox/epic version has some changes so i can't really comment on that but as someone who still plays the steam release to this day across multiple computers it's still got some jank that might cause people who buy it on those $5 sales to boot it up and never actually play the game
+ there's the stuff the other anons mention like the first 2 levels not really representing how the game plays 90% of the time and certain mechanics being basically unexplained like melee attacks making the handgun a headshot machine which can drastically change some fights early on where ammo is a big issue for people who haven't perfected the rest of the game and stealth kills
combine that with a bunch of one hit kill sections and enemies and you got a game that does filter people who may just wanted to try the game out but aren't so into it
it's a shame because it's really a solid game once you can grasp what it wants of the player but it takes some time for that to happen

I played it on whatever the hardest difficulty was available on first play. I will replay on Nightmare mode if I ever replay it.
