Its more where GF decided the gen 2 remakes needed to be more like the Hoenn and Sinnoh where the legendary pokemon had to be part of the story instead of something you could catch when you felt like it. In the originals, once you get the feather from completing the radio tower, you could catch them at any point from there. Now you need to beat all eight gyms and then can't progress any further until you fight the kimono girls and follow them to your version's legendary. They also didn't trust people to not climb Sprout Tower on their own either, so you are forced to do it before you go to the gym.

Dawn was among my first serious 2D faps, and upon my return I made all my friends get into pokemon again, even organized tournaments and shit. Pokemon golden era were gen 4 and 5 (vidya wise), everything before them was a build up and everything after was decline.

Unless you need a specific egg move, breeding isn't really needed for it. You'll do just fine if you get your pokemon with enough stat experience. Best place for that is Ruins of Alph, as Unown give nice amount of them, 72 for attack and special, with 48 for everything else, making them easier to get a grasp on how many you need to kill to get to your limit.

Its not too bad a team aiming for the 50-55 rules. A pokemon in their 40s can get their fill from a few unown level ups, though even just what you get ingame from trainers and some wild battles is better than what you will rent. Really the most tedious grind is for Prime cup's 100 level.

They added a bunch of evolutions to older pokemon that were ugly as shit (rhydon, magmar, and electabuzz's evolutions stand out the most for being lame as fuck). Also the game felt slow as fuck to play and there wasn't anything interesting about the setting. Oh and the rival and male MC looked like huge fucking faggots. I really didn't care for it as a kid, so I skipped Platinum despite it supposedly being the definitive edition that fixed a bunch of DPs problems.

to me Gen 4 felt like the limit of what the series could do outside cramming in more content or streamlining some stuff. It got all of the low hanging fruit and sensible mechanical changes too.
