I decided in 2013 to abandon my hope of being a video game developer and instead go into fintech. I'm glad I did, because at the time microtransactions were just the start. I felt video games had transitioned from being an art to a business, and they were just going to work the formula. It's gotten even worse now, with mobile games making 10x in a month what a single-release PC or console game makes in its lifetime.

The skills I've learned as a fullstack developer, I could program my own game if I wanted to and hire asset makers from fiver or some shit and could make a game. However, I still have the same problem I have now that I had in 2013. I have no ideas for new games that would be fun to play.

do it yourself, use AI to supplement things you dont know how to do. make full games inside TES or whatever using map making tools if you cant set up a full dev environment. if you have ideas there's less friction than ever to realizing them, even in prototype form that can get you to a interview.
