Has any recent AAA strategy game not flopped?

>new update announced today
>Every new update they pivoting more and more on the "losing stuff on the age transition", first you keep your units, now you can keep your gold
At this point i'm starting to feel bad at people who like the fact you lose stuff in-between the age resets. They keep being cucked by Firaxis to appease the "hater" fanbase because their game was a flop.

The problem with strategy games is that Riot's TFT basically monopolizes the genre.

It's like trying to release a new MOBA. You can't compete with League. Or a new MMORPG. Very tough market with autistically loyal players that don't want anything new.

AAA strategy game is an oxymoron at this point

I am not shilling for Riot. I am stating a fact. If it depended on me Riot could crash and burn.

TFT has a way higher skill ceiling than whatever garbage you are playing

It was a shit game but Im starting to get scared about the tiktokification of the masses. Rebirth threads have tons of Anons bitching the game was too hard to follow and pay attention too. FF16 was too smart and anons couldn't get past GoT. TotK was a 82 IQ game. Books and 4x is dying while Gacha, MMOs and GAAS dominate the industry.
Shit scares me bros...

Crusader Kings 3.
In general a sequel can work and get most of the old audience on board, it just needs to be good.
Civ 7 is a disaster, a bad game at launch, which also completely removed the key iconic elements of the franchise which players adored.
Because of that, there is little reason for a Civ fan not to play 4, 5, or 6 considering they are cheaper, better, and more true to the franchise's heart.

A big question though is if a new strategy game can succeed.
Paradox tried with Imperator Rome, but that flopped. That game wasn't even bad. It just didn't hold people's attention the way other Paradox titles did, meaning strategy gamers merely kept played EU4 or HOI4 and didn't give Imperator enough time for it to carve out its own niche

I would probably try Civ VII if they just threw up their hands and announced that they were making a full Civ VI conversion of it. I like the overworld graphics. I hate everything else.

Combat was much better. My theory is they down graded everything so the AI could go from shit to bad.
Ancient feild combat away from the cities I'd rank best in the series.

Throw all their boneheaded ideas in the garbage and make a proper Civ game and MAYBE I will consider it. Any baloney civ swapping is a big fat 'no thanks' from me.

It's amazing that a game whose entire series has become "wait 2 years for them to finish the game" is still successful.
