Moving VGC to Champions makes sense cause they can actually add all Pokémon over time and do regulations with multiple battle gimmicks at once as already shown in trailers, and you're still supposed to catch your team in the main games anyway.

Only if they advertise. That's how they avoided Nintendo's wrath for so long. They stated themselves that Nintendo and TPC are fine, as long as you don't market it, and most Pokemon buyers do not buy Pokemon for the combat. You know it's true, or else the battle frontier and stuff wouldn't have been removed from mainline entries.

But considering how draconian they are with their IPs in the first place, Showdown may go invite only if the lawyers go sniffing around. I I don't think they'll have much to fear as Champions is more for VGC's sake, and Showdown can't interact with or take away from VGC at all.

If they're decoupling competitive from the real games then that doesn't mean everything in the main games would be made competitively viable. It would be exactly the opposite. They'd be free to keep making them like singleplayer RPGs like they were meant to be in gen 1 and 2, where bug types are designated beginner shitmons.

They can still focus on more casual online activities like the co-op play and raids in SV, they just won't have to build the whole VGC infrastructure on top of the main game. I do agree it will hopefully lead to a deeper single player focus, they've already been doing it with Legends and SV itself had some of that with things like the more involved story.

No, you just have to grind harder. The game will allow every option to be purchased with the in game currency that you have to play the game to earn. You can rent pokemon for a period of time or purchase them to keep permanently. Pokemon used on Champion can't be exported to other games but you can import your own pokemon. You can edit values of pokemon except IV based on screenshots but these edits cost in game currency.

People is freaking out because they think the whole stuff is paid or because muh smogon but this is about what most other people were asking about: a game that is just the battles that let you change stats and so. Chances are that if you F2P constantly you will be able to make up about the best free team but you will never be able to outmatch transfer pokemon.
