Nobody can convince me this game has a plot. No matter how I look at it, squint at it, even try to peal it back into allegorical territory. It's simply a disjointed stream of consciousness. Let's take a look at at the "first game," vs its "sequel."
>Red Dead Redemption
Your family is kidnapped because you were a former robinhood/bandit (game lets you decide which was factual to your background). So, you're tasked with killing/arresting your old gang while running into eccentric Wild West character you help on the side. Eventually, you rescue your family, but get betrayed. End Credits. Extremely easy to grasp story with no extrapolations necessary. Maybe you can pull on themes of the Wild West coming to an end and civilization not necessarily being a good thing. But, again that's subjective and doesn't impact the main story. Also, there's very subtle supernatural elements to the world.
>Red Dead Redemption (2, but actually it's 3)
You start off as a gang member with your gang fleeing from "something?" It's never clearly defined, could be federal authorities, could be private security, could be who knows. You end up growing the gang, fighting other gangs, constantly running (from again, nothing), attacking an industrialist who you got chasing after you despite running, constantly the need for money is stressed especially an old nest egg despite your gang not actually needing the money because you're more than capable of making it regardless of where you go or stealing what you need so why bother, and eventually your gang leader betrays you (sort of), and you decided you need to help out one specific member of your gang who probably needs the help the least of any of the members. Eventually you die in a pointless stand off. And, of course there further subplots of meandering lost connections, a sickness, and other shit that never connects with anything else. The game meanders about like a soap opera before coming to a flaccid and joyless ending.
