It was roundly criticized for bosses just being dudes in armor, the "non-Euclidean" shit level design, the shit lighting, the shit N64 level graphics everywhere, the constant "'member DS1?" shit, for starting the "Dark Souls is only about how difficult it is" shit, the Soul Level shit, the "I can't climb over this tiny piece of rubble so I need to kill bosses to open this door" shit, the "Set fire to this metal cog and axel to stop poison" shit, the "Torches are completely fucking useless and pointless," shit, the "This castle is completely fucking empty, who the fuck would even live here?" shit, and on, and on.
The game was not "Beloved" except by dumbass games journalists who thought they were jumping on the Dark Souls bandwagon, and a bunch of faggots whose first game was DS2, and faggots who have no standards and taste. It was very divisive when it came out.
