The point is that you don't want to ever swap back to Simon with a shit basic whip, so every single time you have to use useless Simon to start, upgrade his whip, and then swap back to Grant or whoever. Eventually, you realize that is tedious as fuck doing that after every one of the countless stupid cheap deaths in the game, and you just stick to one character or the other.
I just don't like the way CV1 and CV3 control at all, I hate subweapons requiring dual inputs and being unusable on stairs, I hate the fixed jump arc and very limited attack options, and CV3 feels worse in many ways (especially stair controls) and dials cheap bullshit up to 11.
It was somewhat acceptable with CV1 because it was original and innovative and the first game of its kind, but to then have the sequel that makes basically zero gameplay improvements aside from additional characters, somehow manages to fuck up the controls even worse, and the level design is overall not as strong while at the same time being more difficult than CV1, and also recycling a ton of the same enemies, monsters, power-ups, level desgins, etc. It just feels like an absolute slog to play.
