Why does it have such a weak library of action games?

ALTTP and to a lesser extent Super Castlevania IV are the only genuinely great action games on the whole system.

Action game developers loved the Sega Genesis architecture because it could breeze through operations much faster when it comes to simply moving things across the screen. SNES had other technical draws to it but it was genuinely much worse at handling action. Just look at the horrendous slowdown in games like Super R-Type.

Hard Corps easily destroys Contra 3, no competition
Rocket Knight easily destroys Sparkster or whatever the gay watered SNES version is called
Hyperstone Heist and TMNT is pretty close
Streets of Rage absolutely shitstomps Final Fight
Contra Bloodlines and SCIV are both great, but Bloodlines edges it out

ALTTP dungeons are almost entirely massive combat gauntlets with enemies that deal significant damage and actually pose a threat.

Super Metroid is primarily a block scanning game with enemies and hazards that barely tickle you, pose absolutely zero threat whatsoever, the game floods you in health and health upgrades, and you have to go out of your way and deliberately try to facetank damage for over a minute to actually die.

If you think Super Metroid is an action game but not ALTTP, you are an absolute certified fucking retard.

Based Sega appreciator. People forget how tight the Genesis action lineup really was. Hard Corps makes Contra III look like a baby’s first run-and-gun with its staggering boss variety and branching paths. RKA blows Sparkster SNES out of the water - faster, smoother, better controls, and the BGM slaps harder than it has any right to.

Final Fight on SNES was DOA with one playable character and no co-op - Sor beats its ass into the pavement, then moonwalks over it with Yuzo Koshiro playing live. Bloodlines vs. SCIV is a rare close call, but Bloodlines has that gritty Euro horror vibe and unique character abilities that make it feel fresher. Only fair SNES W in the action genre is ALTTP if you squint hard enough and accept it loosely as “action.” Everything else? Genesis had the better edge.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on /v/ who's actually played a decent amount of games on both systems.
I'm not, but FFS. The inability of so many anons to appreciate games because "x game is better so y game just sucks ass and is worth nothing!" is disgusting.
