nardo veteran here, what is this whole autism about bart not being canon? i thought it was the super equivalent of shippuden, wich while not everyone likes it, its official.

It's impossible nowadays unless the manga series in question is just starting out.

Two problems though. The first one being that a lot of people have fighting game fatigue. Simple solution by just making the next game another genre, right? Well it being a Musou or an RPG doesn't automatically make it better. The studio is still going to have like 2.5 years and a low budget (because so much of the money goes into procuring the IP) so it'll be just as half-baked as an arena fighter.

The second problem is that the average anime gamer only wants an arena fighter a 2D fighter or an ARPG with a CAC system like. That CAC game is going to be half-assed, no one is going to play the 2D fighter unless it looks as good as FighterZ, and the Arena fighter is just going to be ugly with a story that's basically just a chopped up retread of the anime, a combat system that's passable but not remarkable, and a small roster with a good chunk of the interesting characters being gatekept for DLC.

It's easy to make a good anime game. All you have to do is take one good look at the series and see what it needs. Bleach should have a hack and slash ARPG, One Piece needs an action adventure game, Naruto needs its own fighter, ETC. The problem here is that as long as Bandai is the publisher, anything that's made under them will simply be inadequate, and then they'll convince themselves that it's the product that's the problem and forget about it.

Make them a gacha.

I feel like FighterZ ushered in an era of anime games that at least put in an effort to look good. They still aren't up to par, but since 2018 a lot of them have at the very least embraced cel-shaded character models.

It pisses me off so much when I see a retard say "n...not every game needs to look like FighterZ". Bandai has the most profitable anime/manga IPs at their tips. Some of them, like DB and One Piece being cultural titans. Making the characters NOT look like shit should be the absolute bare minimum.

Problem with most licensed games is that they're either made for the broadest market, so they're not particularly challenging, or they're passed off to less skilled development teams, so they're not well crafted. If one does come out successful, it's usually because it was passed off to an inspired team that was able to operate completely under the radar.

Sure, the card game simulator is pretty fun, specially as a time capsule of the meta of the time, but the characters, interaction and atmosphere are what truly makes someone play these games over, idk, Master Duel.
