They make the WoW player small to make the world feel bigger than it is. For final fantasy is that the opposite they make the world big to make the lalafell feel small except for the PS3 zones because they were made with PS3 limitations in mind.

what other open world games have zones diverse enough to warrant marveling at travel? everything at the scale of wow is homogenized to shit and looks like unreal engine slop

bdo has a shitty version of this where you ride in a basket carried by a gryphon from a fishing village to a nearby island

wow having zero loading screens (apart from dungeons and continents) was a major technical feat in 2004 with the shitty HDDs we had then and it's still really impressive even today.
blizzard used clever world design like those zigzag gates in orgrimmar and ironforge as well as hills and terrain between zones to disguise areas being loaded in the background

it's kind of lost now in retail because you're constantly going in and out of dungeons and continents but you can really appreciate it in classic
