It doesn't take much to satisfy people who can't do their own analysis and most reviewer knows people who watch don't play the game. Journalism self service the knower class away from the pain of doing anything. The knower class consume only the memes and aestheics which are the end result of get things done so they can always present themselves as has done a lot on everything. It depends what you mean by that. If you want to highlight things that make the gameplay fun, that make it bad, or that are novel, then sure, I could see how it would be worth it to bring up. But if the gameplay is just fine and there's nothing noteworthy to say about it, then I don't see why waste your breath on it. Just do a quick sidenote and dedicate more time to the elements you thought were more integral to the experience. E.g. I don't need an in-depth retelling of what bog-standard turn-based combat is. I've played a billion games using one, so I'm already aware.

to answer the question tho, for the same reason that music journalism is so light on theory / compositional analysis- despite being simple to do for someone who puts in the time to learn how, it's beyond the ability of most "journalists" and critics and waay beyond the ability of their intended audience- therefore why bother?

Gaming journalism is filled with people who don’t know how to do proper journalism and whose only goal is to generate clicks via clickbait, ragebait, irrational audience pulls with false info, paid reviews via ad buy in or straight up quid pro quo (like that one chick who got hired by NoA, the reviewers who got an all inclusive week vacation to Hawaii by sega, and Doritos Pope who became a Sony ambassador years ago and still is to this day. Journalism as a whole, whether it’s games, tech, books, movies, etc is a farce. You rarely get people like Mork who try to understand a product for what it is and what it tries to do

Mark operates purely on optics and vibes, don't expect a single actually formulated argument in his videos. He admits he was convinced all shmups were Raiden before he learned otherwise; he was convinced all roguelikes were shitty indie roguelites before he learned otherwise. It brings up a worrying pattern in his analytical skills (or lack there of). He says that ZeroRanger is like Undertale because..."the vibes feel right" and not for any demonstrable reason. Mark is a pure aesthete with no reasoning behind any of the shit he says, he's hyper-sensitive to how his opinion looks or "feels" from the outside, so he just sticks to opinions that "feel" like cool opinions to have.
