It's budget was completely insane. And then they had to do emergency fixes to keep the game from getting banned in Japan. They had to REFUND all preorders then too.

They refused to announce any sales or revenue figures, and needed an emergency bailout from Tencent. We know roughly how well the game did based on the Tencent deal, which explicitly gives them a share of all future ubisoft revenue, regardless of profitability.

Game sold millions but will never make back it's budget.
