zoomies think an OS just stops working when uncle MS stops adding more cancer to it.
I turn updates off instantly
Win 10 is teh shittest OS I have ever used. I think I might just go back to win 7 on my PC and shitposting laptop and keep 11 on my gay man laptop

Wrong.
There is free (as in beer) solution which allows you to receive updates officially for another year.

I haven't updated my win 10 in 7 years (so since my dad bought my GAYming laptop for college)
Incelcore 7th gen, nvidia 1050Ti, I can play most modern games at 60 fps
I honestly don't see a reason to update to a new PC anyway, there is no new slop worth buying anyway

I turned off updates when I discovered that it's a big no-no in Microsoft's book if you want to keep your computer turned on for weeks at a time, because you absolutely must update, and if you're not at the computer to say you have too much fucking shit open that needs to be running, Microsoft just forces your computer to turn off and back on again while it installs more trackers.

Win 10 already had a lot of shit I didn't quite agree with but with all the extra bullshit in Win 11 I made the decision to never get a new version of Windows again. At the end of the year I'll switch to a Win10/Linux dual boot setup, using Linux (probably Mint) as my main but switching to Win10 if necessary, for stuff that really doesn't work well on Linux.

I'll have no choice but to upgrade to Win11 on my work laptop, but that's not really my problem anyway so whatever.

What about stuff like fixes?
For example the sekrio fps unlocker which hooks into the game on launch. Or the resident evil engine tweaks that does the same. I'm afraid to switch to linux because a crapton of my games have some sort of mod tool or other dependencies on .net framework that run along the game.

I'd still be using windows 7 pro if steam still worked on it. I don't care about windows 10. after I installed it I crippled the fuck out of it and haven't updated it once except for vital defender patches

Can't really say since I rarely need to use fan fix patches on my steam deck. I did learn how to manually patch the porn content back into porn games on steam.
I believe games running through lutris automatically download the framework + c++ redistributions they need.

My advice switch to LTSC or linux. I know the second is a much harder ask. Make backups of everything important, I always recommend doing a clean install when installing an OS.
If you do actually use the more advance features of windows you can get them working with a little bit of headache on enterprise. But if you're actually using the advance features I'm sure you can navigate it.

the first one is actually the much harder ask. stop recommending LTSC for god's sake. ESU is the one for regular people.

I hadn't updated it since 2018, I don't need to prepare shit. I run a proprietary antivirus and rely on not clicking lostboy.exe as my primary security solution. In fact if it weren't for a single program that was not working on 7, I would have still been running it right now.
