>mogs most stealth games
>mogs most shooter games
>mogs AAA game devs
How did a single Slav indie dev manage to accomplish this?
Anonymous No.718466419 >>718466812
it's that good?

Genuinely
Intravenous 1 surprised me with how good it is and Intravenous 2 is a improvement on every level
The dev is also very passionate and dedicated
>acknowledges his first game had some flaws, uses what he learned while working on the sequel to also port the first title into the sequel with improvements
>treats optimization seriously despite it being a 2D game
>actually acknowledges a silenced gun still makes some noise instead of gunshots becoming quiet squeaks
>releases additional levels and story elements in a free update, explains that it's stuff he had no time to include before 1.0 and not cut content
>also improves the audio system so guns sound louder and heavier when firing indoors
>clearly knows his stuff about guns and took care to have satisfying gunplay
>made well designed AI that is fun and challenging to fight both in stealth and loud shootouts
Based dev

1 had too many buttons and filtered me. I was expecting mami hotline and that's not what I got

That's why you need a mouse with 6 side buttons

I have a mouse with 12 side buttons but I still didn't want to play it anymore.

Played through 1 and 2 recently, super fun games, really impressed with them. its challenging enough to be quite satisfying
i've had more fun with it than with most games i've played this year

It's a great game. It's basically Splinter Cell meets Hotline Miami. I only have a couple problems with it really.

>Achievements basically just require a ton of grinding for money
>The game acts like it has branching paths depending on your choices, but in reality the good path gets a bunch of side missions while the bad path is a much shorter campaign

I hope he makes a sequel in the jungle or something. The formula could use a shake-up

He really should hire a writer though. A good story would complete the game

Haven't played 2 but I already bought it. Finished 1 and the thing that I remember the most is how one fucking door that I forgot to close can alert the whole stage, which in my opinion just a tad bit ridiculous. Still enjoyed the game immensely, I'll get to the sequel soon.

I offered to donate money to him when he posted a community update on Steam, stating he won't be raising the price of the game despite the inflation of the Rubel due to the UKR boogaloo.
I already bought the game twice and I didn't know anyone I could gift it to so I wanted to donate to Roman's Patreon to support his further projects.
He said he won't make a Patreon and doesn't take donos but he thanked me for the gesture.
Roman Glebenkov is a living saint of indie development in my eyes, Intravenous represents what gaming is about:
pure player-driven gameplay, 99% interactivity, only minimal exposition/walking segments.
Also, the game I've been dreaming about since my teenage-a game where stealth and action are in perfect harmony, going ghost or committing massacres are equally valid and fun ways to play the game, no mechanics feel gimped since the game was clearly made to be played a certain way.

Passion
It's just that simple
Anonymous No.718469157
>>718466115 (OP)
Because passion > pipeline.
You got these studios of 400 people pumping out sterile, "focus-tested for the algorithm" trash, meanwhile one Bulgarian dude in a dark room is fine-tuning AI line-of-sight in pixel-perfect environments at 3AM because he actually gives a shit.
When you're not beholden to shareholders screaming about quarterly projections, you can actually make something with soul. Intravenous reeks of that "my blood is in this code" energy.

And yeah, the fact that he not only acknowledges realism (audible suppressed shots, smarter AI, realistic lighting) but also wraps it in tight gameplay makes the game feel like it respects the player's intelligence. Try getting that from modern Ubisoft.

it won't alert the guards, they'll just go searching for you and unlike MGS or Splinter Cell, they won't go back to patrol and just forget about you 3 minutes later despite there being physical evidence of an intruder on the premises. Yes, it is punishing if you're used to regular stealth game goldfish IQ guards but it just means you really have to bring your A-game if you want to ghost through a level.
>>718468404
yeah, also do some grammar/spell checking but there's AI for that now i guess

It doesn't alert the whole stage, instead one guy gets suspicious and starts going around the level while telling enemies he encounters "yo, something is up, be careful" so they also become alert
Enemies with radios can also "spread the news" quickly
Wild how a indie dev can make such a "natural" system of a level becoming alerted while AAA devs settle for "one guy caught a long glimpse of your right toe so now everyone instantly knows that there is a intruder"

Is there a way to play 1 comfortably on a controller? I installed it on my deck but did not find the controls comfy, would enjoy it more with keyboard but I like to use the PC only for big games, Deck for indie stuff

Game's shit and genuinely one of the worst stealth games and indie games ever created.

>nightclub level in the second game
>my partner in vigilantism tells me to be careful because there's lots of civilians in there
>equip myself like Punisher and just walk in the front door
>civilian doorguard "holy shit, he's fucking packing!" and runs for it
>other people like the dj also freak out as I'm walking in
>full panic on the dancefloor happens as people scramble to get out while armed gangsters come out to shoot at me
>pop them all through the crowd before they can even shoot
>keep clearing the whole club while occasionally spooking partygoers in private rooms that haven't heard all the commotion
>0 civilian deaths at the end
I felt so fucking awesome bros

Based nightclub ghost. That level is peak “lone wolf on a mission” energy. The way the game respects your caution - or absolute lack of it - while still making your actions feel grounded is wild. Rolling into a packed club armed to the teeth and surgically dropping goons while civilians panic like dominoes around you is such a clean gameplay loop.

Also, the fact that you can still get 0 civilian kills despite pulling off a full Siege Rainbow™ moment says a lot about how tight the AI and hit detection are. Most games would’ve chalked that up as an "oops, collateral." Intravenous just lets you actually be precise. Feels so damn good.

Personally I just go loud and play it more like a John Wick game.
However in the last few levels it's more like picrel
