I'm about to play Skyrim for the first time
Are there any essential mods I should install?

Why would you want to mod it, is one of the most ground breaking, genre defining, deep roleplaying expriences not enough for you.

SkyUI if playing on PC. I'd say that's really it, sure you *could* install other vanilla+ mods but if it's your first time, it's better if you play as close to the original experience as possible (which you're already not getting if you're playing the version with all the Creation Club nonsense, but oh well)

Just play it unmodded, but play the special edition since it fixes the alt tab crash bullshit

I guess I have a different nexusmods account and can't remember it because I remember downloading more mods, maybe I downloaded them through some mod manager I don't know

The only one that you should have is the one to mark the stones of baranzaiah and another to ensure quests actually leave your quest log

Just pick up the LoreRim modlist on wabbajack, it's how the game was meant to be played anyway.

Play vanilla (no mods whatsoever, not even SkyUI). See the game for what it is. And after you have played it for about 20 hours or so, install SkyUI and feel the difference. Then complete atleast MQ in vanilla+SkyUI, and then just play next playthrough with whichever mods you want.

i do this for all games besides bethesda games, i need a long list of mods before playing, mostly bug fixes and making the games run on modern pcs. I did have a reanimation pack for nv and fo3 when i first played them because the first person animations are fucking ugly as sin, and i downloaded an ads mod for fo3
