This is not videogames. It's neat Sony optical tech, but it's not vidya.

>Serious attempt to create motion gaming
I kind of agree, but also kind of don't, it was more or less just a blip and was outclassed by actual VR controllers by the time it was actually used for VR. The Wiimote was very half-baked and hampered by the fact that anal-retentive console devs don't like rebindable controls, but it's not like it wasn't a similar attempt to push motion controls forward, you really have to take into account that the capabilities of these devices weren't already at the same level of quality and affordability as we see on modern controllers.
>At the moment Sony is still the only one really truly trying to make serious VR games, selling their VR at a loss just to develop the tech further.
They are shitting up the VR ecosystem with yet another walled garden. Not even just that, they put out 2 separate walled gardens in the form of the PSVR1 and the PSVR2, both of which are mutually incompatible with one another. If they wanted to seriously prod VR games forward, then they should have made their main controller for the PS5 a VR controller and also incentivized devs to slap VR modes into their games, since even casual UEVR modding is yielding somewhat workable results for flat games, something that would be a massive boost to the availability of titles for VR. VR is too small of a niche for companies to be constantly trying to cut off and lock in small slices of the pie, it just ruins everything for everyone when a new headset and storefront isn't completely cross-compatible with Linux PCVR.
