It was a neat concept but it had its 15 minutes of fame. Leave it in the arcade where it belongs.

Although they could just port 1, 2, 3, and World Tour to modern consoles and probably make a decent profit

Oversaturation. If you think games with yearly releases like Call of Duty are bad, check out pic-related. They ran the series into the ground. And that's not even taking into account Rock Band that ran separate and got 10 releases in the span of 3 years, plus a fuck ton of DLC.

Also the big toy guitars were clogging up people's homes and made the entry into the series more difficult. It's not a normal game you can just pick up on steam.

Plus kids aren't into dead rock much anymore they listen to stuff like mumble rap and Taylor Swift.

OP here, it's a shame Activision killed the franchise with a billion different games in such short time, but there isn't any noticeable amount of fans that could ask for a new game ? Even if using musics from more "obscure and cheap" bands ? Maybe they could make a "Guitar Hero Underground" or something

Eh times have most definitely changed. Mumble rap died when covid hit. I'm in the underground scene a lot and have noticed a lot more rock bands popping up now than I did 10 years ago. It's making a come back somewhat. Grungegaze is popular right now but it's at risk of being oversaturated in no time considering every grungegaze band re-uses the same 3 riffs in their songs. Post Hardcore is also making a comeback.

I think a problem might also be that there's a barrier to the gameplay itself. I usually play harder difficulties but Guitar Hero is like a completely different skillset. I remember playing on the lower difficulties and having to build up to Expert. That extra orange button at the end that makes it more buttons than fingers can be tricky at first.

Then there's certain song like pic-related where I feel like my fingers can't physically move fast enough even if my mind can.

When I was a teen in 2013-2017, I usually would hang out with some friends to play some games, but eventually it started to become embarrassing to stay there playing and eventually we stopped, then we would only hang out to watch movies or go to a party, of course we played online stuff together but never on the same house.

Eventually I stopped contact with all my friends, in the recent years I was the only one inviting people to watch movies and stuff (usually they accept the offer pretty quick), and unless I started contact, no one would talk to me, guess I'm a piece of shit huh

"You're too old to be playing videogames"

We kept hearing that shit a lot when we reached 17 years old, and it only got worse. So it's embarrassing to play games while everyone around is watching throwing shit comments at you.

your friends probably have discord communities that are ever-present without ever expecting anything. it's replaced friendship.

that's when you take a look at what they spend their free time on and notice all of them are wasting time watching tv, scrolling social media, etc.
they were watching because what you were doing was interesting. they were throwing shit at you because they are jealous of your ability to stay focused on a dynamic, active form of entertainment.

I haven't looked into rhythm games in a long time now but the few I played never scratched the same itch guitar hero did.
Most games overchart to ridiculous levels or they chart shit like the percussion in the background to have a shitton of notes going on instead of the main instrument.

The games I play are good according to the metrics that exist inside my head, but the blame of the board being shit is because you idiots like to make threads talking about useless twitter posts and whenever a woman is too much feminine or masculine, complain to these guys first

why do they let you miss a few notes before you're forced to lose? Kinda like it's not intended for you to hit every single note 100% and only serves as bragging rights and nothing more

it's more than just hitting 100%. its also about hitting as close to the timing as possible. 100% isn't even an achievement.

The fad died. Who knows if it will re-start again, what's popular is often hard to predict and is often driven by the younger generation since they have more time on their hands.

Capitalists successfully redirected outrage at mass job loss in the US/EU away from them and towards the less expensive people replacing them. Tale as old as time.
