Even with this, its a complete DPS race that relies on you spamming Curaga every turn and your party having enough HP to facetank two FlareWaves if you get RNG fucked and CoD does its move between your heals

Only way you reasonably get to this point is by grinding - Its insane how many levels you need to gain between entering the Crystal tower and World of Darkness. I went from like 33 to 47 as I did it.

That last stretch of FF3 is just total fucking ass. What idiot thought not having a single savepoint through not one but like fucking SIX god damn bosses across two dungeons back to back was a good idea?

>Three bigass dungeons back to back with asshole layouts
>Riddled with unskippable cutscenes
>A gatcha final boss which will likely wipe you at least twice (Once before you realize it can't be killed before talking to the dark warriors, and the second once you realize it isn't actually weaker after this)
>On top of which there's a bunch of mandatory bosses, several of which are run enders like the dragon who's entire gimmick is that it oneshots a party member each turn
>You can't save at any point during this

Pour one out for the Japanese children in the 90s who did this without a guide on original hardware because its genuinely like a two hour run that can randomly end because of bad RNG and you'd likely have to run it three times before realizing you need to grind like a motherfucker to even stand a chance

Like I can almost respect Square for how fucking randomly ridiculously hard they made the final stretch of the game. Its like "Oh, you've gone trhough the whole game and want to see the ending? You better earn that shit, bitch"

If it's like the 3D version, melee is the key. You need to reclass one of those mages (devouts?). I ran:
>warrior
>black belt
>monk
>devout

The 3D version has different job balancing. In the original and PR there is literally no benefit to using anything other than Ninjas and Sages by the end

Wait what do you mean 3 dungeons.... oh right fucking Eureka. The optional area that two fucking giga wizards kill themselves to... seal or something?

Fuck me at least with that one you can like run all the way back out of the crystal tower to save once you grab all of the stuff in there. It's not like remotely fun but you can technically do it. I never did beat FF3 as a kid because of that bullshit final dungeon either I always ended up getting bodied by Cerberus.

You have to understand that things were different then. Of course, a punishing two-hour run somewhat reliant on chance and a long grind is unthinkable today, but back when FFIII originally released there was basically no Internet, no streaming, no Netflix, far less things to keep track of and be distracted by from moment to moment. Not to mention, the game technology itself was so limited that only the system itself and a barebones story could fit onto the cartridge; games at that time were transitioning from the old arcades onto home consoles, so the idea of retrying entire runs wasn't unusual at all. Most of the drama happened in the living room with the players themselves, because the game didn't have the capacity to have it play out on-screen yet.
It was probably a fucking fantastic time.

After playing FF2 I just decided there's no fucking way I'm going to play FF3, it's the only game from 1-10 I haven't touched. Looks like it was good call, but 2 was pretty bad as well. At least it was amusing how many of playable characters have died

Cloud of Darkness isn't that difficult. The gauntlet before reaching it is the only reason it's remotely challenging which is how a good JRPG should be designed.

With the exception of like 3, every boss in that game is a cheap difficulty spike because they all function the exact same: hope the boss doesn't go twice in a row with their party-wide spell.

Just play the Pixel Remaster version anon. They added multiple save points throughout the Crystal Tower so it's nowhere near as punishing not to mention the PR games generally having both auto-save and quick save.

The entire gauntlet of going through 3 long ass dungeons with multiple bosses is still a bitch though.

I played NES 3 completely blind a few years back. Crystal Tower crying is tuber opinion poser shit. You've given your very own portable uber shop at that point. You only have to go back like twice including if you do Eureka. Even Garuda is just a brief shitty gimmick. Now, Cave of Shadows and all of the mini dungeons after the first? Absolute fucking AIDS.

As I was a kid, I saved after my airship was blown up and was completely filtered by Garuda.
Did grind the fuck out and beat him without dragoon.
And tbf having to beat 2 dungeons back to back is annoying. I think FF2 also had one but at least I was playing the PS1 version so had map save.

Anonymous No.718482463
>>718482042
It's a sidegrade at best. The enemy party size being cut in half noticeably affects difficulty, but the jobs being balanced somewhat is nice. Making sages worse at summoning was retarded though, because that still won't convince anyone to use a summoner.

I played the Pixel Remaster but this boss was incredibly easy.
My fighter and monk died near instantly, but my two mages just had the following routing:
>Curaja (Self/Whenever other mage is low) -> Aeroga (whenever full HP)
>Quake -> Drain (whenever low HP)
>Stockpile of elixers when needed

Its kind of anti climatic how she is very hard but Sin, the actual villain is easy as shit.
Anonymous No.718484401
>>718483992
Nah she just subverts you a little. Naturally you hurry to cure any status effect your party gets inflicted with. And it just so happens that you'll finish up healing your party before defeating her second phase where she'll instantly hit you with a party wide Mega Death in her third phase. Couple that with her 10 minute unskippable cutscene and it's a recipe for disaster.
Anonymous No.718484465
>>718484201
When you get to the last area, the difficulty ramps up HARD and the last dungeon has enemies that can insta-kill your party on their 1st turn. So you have to grind like hell to get to level 40 at least (you will likely be way under-leveled)
Anonymous No.718484478 >>718485052
On the one hand, its pretty based that the game requires you to clear the original DK arcade to finish the game

On the flip side, this is disproportianally more difficult than anything else in the game, it forces you to do it twice, on hard mode, with no continues and you have to watch a long cutscene every time you fail
