Xillia 2 is a more polished game all around with a much clear vision and a fuckton of QoL and additional features.

Vesperia for it's first 20 hours or so is one of the worst games in the entire series it's gameplay is so unbelievably terrible. Graces feels infinitely better right out the gate. You know Xillia is my 3rd favourite game in the entire series but it's honestly baffling how fucking stupid a decision this was. First is the price. Why is it more expensive than the Graces remaster? Second is the lack of Xillia 2. Like literally why? So they can sell it separately at a later time? Why would they think this would go down well when they've already done a Xillia 1+2 combo set on the fucking PS3? Then there's making this their big aniversary game. I personally like Xillia 1 but it's far from a beloved classic. It's like they thought "what is the stupidest and most tone deaf shit we could possibly do" and then they did that. But then again that's about as much as I'd expect from Bandai Namco, a company so monumentally stupid they make Sega and Square Enix look savvy.

They really decided to send Tales of Xillia of all things up against fucking Dragon Quest 1-2 HD

I know going up against Pokemon is even more suicidal so early-mid October wasn't exactly an option but considering what a dead zone summer was surely they had better options for a Tales of game not called Symphonia or Vesperia.

3 is actually well-loved and introduced so many RPG mechanics that are mainstays in the entire genre.
1-2 are technically sequels in the lore and the original games are both very short and dated in comparison to 3.

3 was insanely barebones and lacking in any and all features so if 1 and 2 are even less than that I can't see anyone actually enjoying it beyond nostalgia and the novelty of it. The fact that you don't even have an actual party of characters but just generic mooks you make yourself was awful enough that I genuinely couldn't believe it. I mean sure I've never been into them and my only exposure to the series was 11 so to me having a party of actual characters seemed like the bare minimum. I enjoyed 11 and even beat it twice cause I don't mind simplicity but yeah that's a bit much even for me. I guess it really is just a nostalgia bait re release for existing fans rather than any actual attempt to bring the game to new fans.
