Game development became really expensive and NRS games always had the biggest budgets when it came to the genre. This was fine 10+ years ago but since games prices didn't increase they have to recoup the costs with DLC and microtransactions, but unlike other FG developers, NRS cultivated a "playerbase" that buys the game, mashes in singleplayer, plays online a few times then barely plays the game afterwards. Also Aftermath went on sale for dirt cheap not long after release, a lot of people realized it was better just to wait.
