Tekken 4 has always been my favorite and only one I ever liked.
When I looked more into Virtua Fighter I basically realized its what I wanted of Tekken this whole time, now regret that dumbass T8 purchase I made but eh.

Honestly Turd Kike is fucking awful if you think about it. Every tournament is just Chun-Li, Ken and Yun. Parry also is a poorly balanced mechanic which Garou did way better from that generation.

People LOVE to bring up Evo Moment 37 but how about you sit through the torture of watching the whole fucking match before that happens? It is mind numbing.

I don't hate high level gameplay. I hate Turd Kike high level gameplay specifically because it is boring as fuck. And I don't really watch tournaments, its just that I follow the scene for a few games played on Fightcade and don't sit there and tell me that game offers any actually cool matches.
There's games with similar mechanics and concepts like it that are wayyyyy more entertaining and have more meaningful choices during the battles.

not a Capcom game, so it will die fast. Although Tekken players are pretty upset with the current state of the game, so this could be VF's DBFZ moment when it buried MVCi.

For me the vibe of the game does play a big part I won't lie but honestly I hear that Tekken 4 is really bad tournament wise supposedly but the funny thing is if you look up JP tournaments this doesn't even seem that true.
I was watching some once and it was really hype and unique to watch, something kind of between the grounded stuff of VF and some more out there combat. I get the older Tekken were mostly like that but the terrain of the stages really played a role.

I really think the hate for it and the parroting of the supposedly bad "tournament scene" is a classic hivemind moment.

That doesn't change that parry is just a really dogshit mechanic nowadays. Sure it is important and all but the punishment for parrying is too damn little and honestly just kind of leads to uninteresting gameplay the more and more the game goes on. Not just that, no proper recovery animation and LOTS of other factors that make 3S kinda boring in all honesty. I don't negate its legacy and all though and obviously people who made imo better stuff were inspired (like Daisuke)

You can always go back and watch old tournaments, there were great tournaments all the time, lots of great matches.

A little background: Sanford Kelly was basically getting some criticism about how he has fallen off and is no longer as good as he was, and Aquasilk was saying his Oni was bad, so they ran a first to 5 set to settle it, but Sanford wanted more.

Game still looked Virtua Fighter-y, which is good.

I'm just not sure if I have enough commitment anymore to get good at a new fighting game from nothing. I can't just rest on my laurels if I pick up a game and be satisfied to simply "have fun" not really getting the game - it's not how I think when I come to this genre. But conversely the hardship of sucking, being hard on yourself in the hopes you figure out how you fucked up, and then putting that to work by learning what you did wrong is a journey I had more tolerance for when I was younger. I ain't in college anymore, I don't have the players around me like I did back then who could push me to improve, even if I still want to.

Tekken4 was the Harada's take on the VF3tb, which is still the best 3D Fighter ever made.
VF6 looks like it's just another clone of VF5 and it's not even made by the original VF devs(the "AM2" dev team) who always had an inspiring new idea, that changed the whole gameplay of 3D fighting games.
If you like the Tekken4 gameplay maybe you should find a decent Model3 Emulator or a Dreamcast Emulator and try playing VF3tb.
