is it even possible to learn to play this and reach a decent level when you're 30+ years old?

I've been playing AoE2 since the early 2000s and I'm still dogshit at it. I just like playing with friends and building cities.

I don't even try with online multiplayer anymore. The level of complete devotion to it to get better is not worth it to me, too time consuming. And it seems like everyone there 700+ elo would be ranked professional esports players if they were teleported to 2018. The learning curve is too high, not worth it. However the single player and campaigns against cpu that is still fun
