I don't think you were watching the direct if you came to that conclusion at all. Not only does every character have a unique passive ability and a unique way of attacking, but were also given a unique special move too. Kirby may not be set apart too differently this time around so Sakurai gave him 4 special moves which is more than anyone has in the game. The game still retains the "unfair" uniqueness by expanding upon it in different while not totally gimping particular drivers like D3 and MK like in the original.

So is this Nintendo's big holiday game? I mean it's not bad and in fact it looks good for what it's trying to do but it's also not very ambitious. Now a game having a limited but precise scope isn't a bad thing it's just not exactly exciting enough for a big holiday game if you weren't a big Kirby air riders fan already or at least to me. So I suppose my issue isn't necessarily with the game which I might get later on sale but rather no big holiday game. I think MP4 will be a September shadow drop release after maybe a direct.

I understand that, but even if I ignore the fact that Fighting Games are still $60 (unless your name is Tekken...actually it just hit me it was definitely Bamco that set the price), the nature of racing games in general have far less dynamics and interplay between players. That's why most racing games are rather content dense when you break it down, and that Mario Kart prior to 8DX + Booster Course is genuinely empty by comparison (it's why people shat on how awful 8's battle mode was originally -- there was just nothing else to do). Large career modes, heavy customization, open-worlds, seasonal events, you name it.
KAR by its nature of being Baby's First Kart Racer just have so much less to it. And without additional modes or an even greater City Trial, I don't think it would be worth the $70 price. I have no doubt it will be a fantastic game, but I would stake my heart on it being the "this is why video games need to cost more" answer.
