Sometimes the game will let you vote for one of four different stadiums. You play the stadium you voted for, and if you're the only one on that stadium you're defacto declared the winner, then you play a victory lap against NPCs. I've never played the original Air Ride but city trial looks kind of shit based on what was shown.

The good:

Smash Melee had 26 characters.
Smash Ultimate had 89 characters.
Kirby Air Ride had 20 machines.
Kirby Air Riders, realistically, could have at least 40 machines, plus riders.
There were 9 tracks in Air Ride, they will at least double that number.
The city trial game mode wouldn't bother naming the map if there were only one of them, we WILL get more.
This is a full priced game coming out within months of their console launch, assuming it will have as little content as what's been shown so far would be foolish. Why would they blow their whole load the very first showcase?

Kirby enemies are sort of like Yoshis and Toads where you have this whole species of creatures that look and have the same name, but the singular one you see in a racing or fighting game is THE one especially when they have proper sounding names like Knuckle Joe and Sir Kibble. Level design wise yeah I think Squeak Squad was the worst, doesn’t help that a main focus of the game is collecting each level’s treasure chests yet the level design spams the hell out of “you only have one chance to collect this” and “guess the right path that leads to the treasure, you have only one shot” for so many treasures

Squeak Squad had a lot of fun ideas even if it couldn't nail the level design perfectly. The abilities were plenty fun with things like Magic, Elemental Swords, Metal (people who think it's a worse version of Rock were filtered) and fucking Ghost

Squeak Squad is a flawed follow up to the GBA games that has unusually short bite-sized levels (smaller than Super Mario Bros 3 at times), with a let-down of a final boss.
It was undercooked, but still a serviceable game and had fun stuff like the Animal ability to dig through dirt and snow.

No, I will not stand for this. I was there when it happened. Literally everyone in the world was going, "damn, this game could be better". There was not a single person in the world that considered Squeak Squad to be their favorite when it first came out. For years upon end, it was universally considered the weakest game in the series. Only until vanilla Star Allies came out did it have that crown taken from it. I'm not even saying it was bad, just that the response from every soul on earth was a resounding Meh.

And I say this as someone who liked things about it. Holding copy abilities in storage, some of the level design was neat, upgrading abilities was cool before Forgtten Lands did it. And it had a lot of neat ability revamps like Fighter, Ninja, Magic, and so on. But at the end of the day, it was still a mostly average game, bordering on above average. Don't you fucking assholes try to rewrite history like this.

Canvas Curse was way better than Squeak Squad though.
Mass Attack I never bothered to finish because of the weird game-feel with its unconventional soundtrack and slow pace.
Epic Yarn is fine but suffers from Good Feels early trappings of making you do way too much gimmicky stuff and picking up all the shiny rainbow collectibles. Wario Land Shake It suffered similar problems, but I found Epic Yarn to be more enjoyable.

Rainbow Paintbrush on Wii U I could not vibe with however, I felt like it got things wrong with Canvas Curse like putting in auto-scrolling sections in a game where Kirby continuously moves forward, and general headaches with bonus games.

Most of the old games' lore is just "creepy evil eyeball demon causes trouble, Kirby travels different worlds and then kills it". It was starting in Return to Dreamland that an established continuity began, and previous characters started to make more reappearances instead of just be one-offs.

One of the story points was a blue butterfly would appear in the intros of every game. Come towards the end of one of the boss gauntlets in Star Allies the butterfly reappeared, landed on a defeated superboss and consumed it, then transformed into the superboss Morpho Knight. Morpho Knight would reappear again in Forgotten Land as the butterfly, doing the same thing to the main villain. That butterfly is the grim reaper for defeated warriors, claiming their lives and souls to take physical form and battle Kirby.
