After replaying the games I played as a kid recently, the only ones I could play past the first like 3 levels were the lord of the rings and hobbit games, lego batman 3, dc villains, force awakens and skywalker saga. All the rest are so mechanically numb I geniunenly consider them games you can find good only as a young kid. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be respected, but they geniunenly do not have any inherit positives to the gameplay or structure. Skywalker Saga has lame puzzles but it feels more mechanically engaging to play and easier to stay awake doing so.

This new batman game looks a lot better than it tho, seems to take all the stuff that worked from all eras of lego games. The more modern camera and combat of skywalker saga, the vibe and amount of content of dc villains, and the more lowkey presentation of the older games.

Honestly, while it might seem like a bad thing I actually think this will be to the strength of the game because it means it'll be a more focused Batman experience, which is I'm assuming what people actually want from a LEGO Batman game. It looks like they're making it more of a Batman game that happens to be LEGO, instead of a LEGO game that is set in Gotham called 'Batman'. So Year One likely themed on a mix of Battinson and Arkham Origins, Ra's al-Ghul via Batman Begins (Given Talia is playable), Batman first encountering the Joker a la The Dark Knight, getting Robin which might imitate the Batman & Robin movies, The Long Halloween, Knightfall using The Dark Knight Rises as reference, throw in Nightwing and Red Hood there with Arkham Knight, and then MAYBE (very much MAYBE) proper Court of Owls shit and a plotline based on Grant Morrison's Bat Epic stuff since the League of Assassins and Talia are relevant there too. Dark Knights Metal and the Dark Multiverse and all that is much more "general" canon in DC's eyes despite the Batwank in it.

A fucking Lego game isn't going to be the definitive batman experience man, remember it's for kids. They're going against their strengths by leaning into the action slop genre. Lego games used to be a fairly unique experience with the big roster, abilities, coop puzzles etc, and they're throwing it away to be a worse version of everything else. Skywalker Saga wasn't designed for coop at all. I just don't see how it could be anything else but a worse version of Arkham Knight with baby humour and low poly models.
