A decent successor if anyone wants a similar taste. The sequel is alright but less concise, imo.

I don't like the artstyle of the sequel. I only played demo and it wasn't that great. Does it get better?

I'm playing the sequel right now but it lacks soul.
I think it's mostly shitty OST but the animation and presentation in general were also better in the Case of the Golden Idol.

I think the biggest thing for me that I enjoyed about the sequel is how the Idol itself is used in comparison to its plot significance to the first game. But overall, I agree, the animations and soundtrack and generally worse just because it looks quite uncanny - I was noticing that in the DLC for the first game as well, but still ended up enjoying them. I think the time period doesn't lend itself to ancient tech discoveries in as interesting a way.
That said, it still has merit. If you played it by itself it's a pretty interesting puzzle game, it's just that the first game is more concise and realized in its concept. I'm not done with it, but I think I'm on one of the last few puzzles. There's two puzzles I really enjoy in the second game.
